Title: My shop takes care of me!!!!
Post by: WAPITIHUNTER on August 17, 2009, 08:47:01 PM
I went to Rainier Archery the other day and he gave me an older arrow backstop that was not good enough for the shops use anymore. It is plenty good for my use. Joe and all the guys there are class act fellows. Thanks JOE!!!!!! I will carry the shops name on my shoulders during my Nooksack Hunt!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah that's nice and all but it's too bad they don't treat all their customers like that!!! Not talking about free stuff it would just be cool if they were nice. Well done WAPITIHUNTER  I'm glad for ya ... you sure are in the minority on this one  :)

I have only dealt with Joe at Rainier Archery and have always received great service too Wapiti. There are good and poor customer service stories in every retail business, I'm sure archery shops are no different. When a customer walks into a store with an issue, they are also walking into the store with, in their minds, the acceptable solution. It has been my experience that when the "acceptable" solution is not reached, you have your "poor" customer service story. It would do Joe and his employees good if they, and other shops, listened to the customer and maybe asked what, in the customers mind, it would take to remedy the issue. A happy customer will tell one person about their experience, a disgruntled customer will tell 10. :twocents:

That's good stuff Phool! but I don't think that Joe is that smart, The only way I have found to get that type of service from Joe is if you drop a 1000 bucks  those are the guys that come on here and defend him, including you I bet you've dropped a good portion there huh? Now go in there with something that is small under 40 bucks that needs to be fixed and you never dropped the 1000 at his place and you'll be treated differently.

If he was smart and he treated those small customers the same, Where do you think they would want to buy their next bow? Joe doesn't seem to think this way and I received that kind of treatment early on so that is why he has never received my business when it came time to make the big purchase, heck I wont even take the small stuff there either.

It's not the bows that are making the shop money.  It's the accessories and little things that make money.  Tuning, fletching.....etc.  I have worked in Pro shops covering for the owners when they go hunting.  What a pain in the ass customers are.  You are right when they com in with preconceved ideas.  And then there is the guy that comes in with 10 printed pages from archery talk knowing everything.  From now on I will not try to help those guys I will do just what they want smile and take their money.

But there are are guys that come in and are willing to listen and maybe take a free lesson, those are the customers that I like.  My hats off to you shop owners.  Cept maybe those xXx guys, they deserve the special ones.  :P

So any of you guys able to recommend a shop further north? I live in Monroe and work in factoria so any shops in close vicinity to either place is somewhere i could actually frequent. I've been to Van Winkle's in Everett and haven't tried Nock Point yet, but i'm wondering if there are more choices.

I have also had great service from Joe and the guys at Rainier Archery (Graham) and yes I have purchased my bow from them. But I have also watched how they treat new customers as well. You have some guys who come in and know it all, regardless of the professional experience the guys behind the counter have. This is the way they want it done, so they do it, and when the guy has problems its the shops fault. This time of year it really gets crazy. Shops are busy now, new strings, out of tune bows, broken this or that, they work hard to help people out. Someone came in and had like 2 dozen arrows, all messed up and Joe had one of the guys get at least a half dozen arrows worked on right then so the guy could shoot. As busy as they were he didn't have to do that, come back next week and they will be ready would have been ok with the guy. I know every shop can't please everyone, but I guess I am lucky. They do it right for me.

That's funny! When I started going to Rainier archery I think I was 23 or 24 years old. I am now just about to turn 38. I have always had good service and my equipment has always performed. There were a couple times that the accessories that I chose failed. Joe has always recommended the best equipment and tried to steer me in the right direction. I am the type of person that likes to listen and learn from those with experience rather than speak stupid crap out of ignorance from uneducated opinions. Since I started going to Rainier Archery so many years ago I killed an Elk almost every single year since. If they are so crappy, according to all the know it alls out there, then why in the world does my equipment that has been tuned and setup there always perform flawlessly. One reason. It's not them that has a problem................99% of the time it is the shooters form that has a problem!!!!! It took a few years for me to slowly realise what was going on. Everytime I was shooting through paper and tearing horrible it was always my form. Once I finally realised that I rarely ever had a problem. Learn what good form is and will do for you, stop telling the guys that know what they are doing and that know what you are doing wrong how you do things. Start listening and learning, apply what you learn and you will start to shoot better. In short stop being a complainer. Take the good with the bad and focus on the good. Every shop, from what I have seen, has the same crap said about them from somebody. Joe takes care of me cause he knows I will always be back to buy from him. I always tell him where the Elk are at and have even had him come out and hunt with me. Joe is a great elk hunter. I learned alot from him. He has hunted the area where I live since I was a kid. I had him come up last year after I killed my bull .............well.......... for certain reason's  Ultimately there will always be complainers and know it all's. I chose to be a learner and to put up with certain things and I turned out to be somewhat of a decent elk hunter and archer. Thank you Joe and all the guy's at Rainier Archery for always supplying me with the best equipment ,always setup just right and teaching me how to be  better archer.

Like I said before Rainier Archery will be some getting credit for my succes on this Nooksack Elk Hunt

Roger that Wapitihunter, I have also been doing business with Joe and his crew at Ranierr archery for the last 16 years or so. I bought my first bow from Joe at his old place.  Talking with some of the guys he has working for them have made me a much better shooter, by correcting my form.
Hoytem, as far as being a paying customer goes, I hadn't given Joe any money for about a year, and I don't suspect it was that much when I did, but when I went in to look at getting a new Spot Hog, I was treated just as well as if I was dropping 1K on a new rig. Prior to that, They helped me out with my peep sight, free of charge.
I cant tell you how many hours, between Joe, and his guys, must have dumped into me when I was trying to figure the whole thing out in the beginning. I bet i burned off more of his roll of tuning paper in the beginning than his whole clientele put together. Never was charged.

I have had string reserved, for free.
Peep sights fixed, for free
Help tuning my bow, free
Free advise/ schooling (some of the best)
Brought back things that didn't work for me, and exchanged for stuff that would
Shafts cut and fletched on the quick (some I didn't even buy from Joe.)
A Matthews warranty that he helped me out with, even though it was my fault.
Retied release loops, free

For shops up here, I would go to the Nock hands down.  Van Winkles is great for looking and they are fun guys to talk with, but I have had better service from the guys at the Nock.

Absolutey one of the top three worst customer service experiences i ever had was at VanWinkles, i would not buy a thing from them if they were the last bow shop on earth.
I also had very poor service from The shop in Mt vernon, this after the year after my VanWinkle experience.
Some of the best service i have ever gotten in any business is at the Nock Point, very nice and knowledgable staff, i would drive across the state to have themdo my work and to patronize there business..
