He scores plenty for me :hunter:
:yeah:
-
What - No guesses? Do I need it to be a poll? Maybe thats a good idea?
-
Not enough to look at for me
-
I suck at scoring elk but I will say 310-335. Let's see how far off i am?
-
Let's see how far off i am?
How are we going to know unless you go put your tag on him. ;)
-
322. Looks like his mass measurements will help him.
-
300-320 ish , Could be a little better since his body looks so big . I say stick him . Do you have a tag?
-
I thought he would score 350+..... Need more practice scoring I guess. Ya, I have a tag for him. Here's another view of the same bull I posted on another thread.
-
Who cares what he scores. If I see something like that during a legal season, he is going down hard, then worry about a score after I get him packed out and hung up.
-
310 or 350 unless you have a blues tag I would smoke him if I had a chance.
-
shooter, he is a good looking bull, I'm going to say 340-350
-
I don't know what he would score but that is a hell of a bull.
-
I am wanting to hold out the first 5 days for a 350 or better bull. After that maybe I shoot a 330 bull.... Thats why I am rying to practice scoring bulls.
-
I'm guessing 320. When you get him let me know how far off I am!
Good luck.
-
Yes, I think you should shoot it and let us all know.
-
I'd put him breaking the 335 mark for gross score. He is very good up front but not great. And tops are just good in my book. He might be closer to 330.
-
A quick field judging tip I use is , look at the eye gaurds if there as long as his face good , then if his fours are noticibly longer than his g1's with decent g3's kill him . that is in less you have some killer tag that method typically would put a bull over 300 inless he's really missing something else. Some times when you are calling in a bull there;s not much time to judge him practice that and you'll get pretty good at making a quick judgement call, Good luck Coach.
-
Hunt what tag do you have?. In my unit he'd died in a heartbeat.
-
looks like a great bull to me 345 ish mains may be on the short side
-
330ish
-
i think thats a solid 340-350 bull.
i would have a hard time not shooting it regardless of what tag i had including the tag that you have.
-
Hunt what tag do you have?. In my unit he'd died in a heartbeat.
I have a watershed elk tag. So I guess he walks for the first 5 days.
-
340 or 350
-
Definately over 300, but probably not much over 350 if at all. Too much emphasis on score these days, a healthy wild animal taken on public land hunted ethically is a true trophy in my book. I really don't think anybody in their right mind would pass on anything 5x5 or better, but then I prefer modern and we all love spike only regs leaving the big ones for tribal use. Good luck getting him out!
-
I think any archery opportunity at a bull like that would be hard to pass . Don't let himwalk you might regret it , that is in less your not showing us another?
-
Good reply Coach..... I like it!
-
I agree with -06. A real trophy!
-
Great Pics!! Either bull,it is a no brainer for me!
-
I'd put him 350-355ish
-
ive seen a lot of pics of bull elk and ive decided that no matter where it is 300" is a nice bull once it gets bigger than that the wow factor just goes up a bit
-
Its a nice bull for sure. First pic is a little deceiving makes him look not as good as he does in the second pic. Good 3rds for the blues and his fourth and fifth look good so I would say 340+ but the velvet could make him look bigger than he is. Those are the hard ones to pass but thats up to you! nwhunter
-
My first enitial thought was 330, with the second picture I thought probably right at 340. Nice bull. Save him for the last few days ;)
-
I think he scores :yike: h o l l y sh*#
-
He is a shooter, if you are willing to take him the last day than you should not hestiate to take him opening morning.
-

:yeah:
For a 350+ bull hes gonna need better thirds. Normally a bull with substantial thirds is a monster. because if the thirds are big everything else is big too.
I was thinking 335, and extra 5 inches on both thirds would get him real close to 350 in my opinion. :twocents:

Holding out for a 350 bull in WA is a tall order unless you have a special permit. Good luck on this bull. He won't go 350"; likely in the 320's.
-
That's a nice south rainier bull
-
340-350
-
Mid 340's nice looking bull
-
I have a tough time with that "if you'd shoot him the last day and be happy don't pass him on the first day" saying. I have heard it before but in a special draw area with big bull potential, say 350 plus potential, shooting a 310 bull the first day would be a tough one to live with but after you give it your all for ten days then that same bull would be a well earned reward if you gave it your all. Just my opinion knock on wood. nwhunter
-
dont put to much emphasis on score unless your shooting whoppers all the time. when theres no doubt in your head on whether to shoot him pull the trigger. in other words if your debating in your head on whether to shoot or not its probably not the one.

Guys...........I hate to be a party pooper on my first post...but that bull won't score over 305...his mains are to short, and he lacks mass between points 2&3 to go any highter....He is a fine bull though especially if you are gonna take him with a bow.

Obviousely you know nothing about bulls, sorry man but you suck at feild judging.
Anyway, lets see here, how bout some tine lengths:
G-1s 15ish
G-2s 14ish
G-3s 13ish
G-4s 16 @ 17ish
G-5s 14 @ 12
G-6 6
Mass bout 52
Insice about 40
Mains abot49 @ 50
so that makes.....340 wow, just what I thought. ;)
-
Only one way to settle it........ :hunter: put that guy on the ground and put a tag on him and then a tape. Oh, and then :EAT: :brew:

Well lets see......since you know nothing about me...I guided professionaly in Montana for 4 years I have 3 6x6 bulls on my wall....and several rag horns and I guided many successful hunters...so yeah your right, I know NOTHING about bulls...there is no way those G3's are 13 inches....more like 9-10....DOnt get me wrong he is a nice bull and I would take him in a second, but he is not gonna go 340. Sorry

When I guided I had to be VERY good at judging bulls.....I give this guy a lower score, cause he is still in velvet and that adds to how big he looks....Just cause I am new here does not mean I am new to elk hunting bud...far from it
-
If you were my guide and told me that was a 305 Bull. I would tell you I wanted a new guide. :bash: "Team PSE" must not require good field judging skills :dunno:. That bull is too wide and main beams too long too be 305 (among other things) :twocents:
-
I am judging this based on what can only be called "fair to poor" photos based on lighting....
Do all of you guys bash people that oppose the going opinions this way?
And what does "team PSE" have to do with my opinion on what this bull scores?
All I said is that I don't think this Bull will go ver 305...315 at the most...
Sheeesh you guys..give me a break!
-
Ok....lets try this guy....my buddy arrowed this bull 5 minutes after the pics was taken....
What do you think he scores?
-
They both score number one in my book. Welcome to the site Bowcop. Mark
-
Yeah, welcome Bowcop.
Hey, what kind of puppy is that in your avatar?..........golden retriever or yellow lab......I'm thinking lab, but sometimes its hard to tell in pics......
-
Retriever......here he is these days...he will be two on opening day of archery elk season....where I will be out in the woods completely sucking at judging elk :dunno: :chuckle:
-
Ok....lets try this guy....my buddy arrowed this bull 5 minutes after the pics was taken....
What do you think he scores?
Just guessing but I'd put him around 283" or so... How close am i?
Also I would bet a dollar to a dime that the bull that started this thread is over 320"... and would bet a nickel he's 330" plus...
Michael
-
I will post his score once the experts post their guess....but your off by a bit.... The pic of this bull sucks....I shot this as a movie...and had to take a pic of a still frame...he is biggger racked than he looks, to be fair...he is actually a 6x7 with the 7th point on the right beam....but as a referrance his g4s are 15 3/16th inches long
-
Tough love bowcop ;). When your first post is what it was, your gonna get a little crap.
Michael J is pretty close with his guess. Maybe 290. but that is one pic and you cant even see all of his points. Hard to judge one blury photo without at least on more angle.
-
I'd say 270 to 280 still a good archery bull. I do think that first bull is in that 330 range though.put him down and settle this if you dont have the tag witch unit is he in ? Coach
-
Bowcop,
Atmost I'm guessing that bull goes 300", but he's severly lacking 3rds and mass... I'll stick with mid 280's... ;) But who knows I've never even officially scored a buck/bull I just go by what I see with my 'field judging' skills!
Michael
-
I'm saying 325-330 on the first bull and 305 on Bowcop's.
-
Well fellas......he was a 317 3/16....I am sorrry for the crap photo...my buddy did not mount him (although I protested that he should)
-
What about this guy? I took this photo in 2008 he was poached in Oct of 08 and was recovered from the dirtbag that did it......I know what he scored from by buddy with WDFW....let the guessing begin....and this is an Eastern WA Bull......
-
You ever seen a bull that fat before?? :)
-
3/16 huh.............. :dunno:.
-
NOT ENOUGH :) 323
-
short fronts, again 315ish.
-
3/16 huh.............. :dunno:.
Yes 3/16 That is a standard form of measurment.....
-
and tall but weak 3's, 310.
-
Not for Boone and Crockett.
"All measurments must be made with a 1/4 inch wide flexible steel tape to the nearest one-eighth of an inch"

3/16 is Standard huh? :dunno:
-
Hornhunter,
You are right of course. I was going off of memory...not my bull. So he was 317 and something. There I admitted it, I am just a newbie here that obviously knows nothing about elk or scoring them. Feel better? How about you just put me on "ignore" and leave me alone, huh?
Hunt,
Forgive me for the hi-jacking of your thread, that was not my intention....sorry.
-
Bowcop, I think he will go 315ish?? I dont know. What did he score?
-
OOps, I didnt see that you had already posted the score on that first bull you posted. That second bull is probably a 350 bull, I got to look at him a bit more.
-
Uh probably a little less maybe than 350?
-
I'll say 339ish on that last bull bowcop! Great pics thanks for posting! I still think you're way under on the bull that was first posted on this thread, but whats the net for if not for argueing over pointless things? lol BTW welcome to the site, hope ya stick around! ;)
Michael
-
Thanks MichaelJ.....
The second bull scores 337 on the nose! Good job!
-

Bowcop ---
You really think the last bull you posted is +30" over the first bull of this post? I would say at least comparable but who knows.....
Thats probably not the bull I will be shooting the first 5 days of the hunt.......
-
OK OK OK I throw in the towel...... :bash: He's a 350 bull if there ever was one!!! I just think that his tine lengths are a wee bit to short to be anything over 320 tops....
-
Welcome to the site Bowcop :hello:
