Title: Need New Arrows
Post by: chrisb on August 24, 2009, 09:50:42 AM
So I'm looking at getting some new arrows and need some advice/opinions. I shoot a Fred Bear recurve at 42# and currently use carbon arrows. Looking to remain with carbon arrows but not sure about fletchings. The arrows i have now have the 4 inch "feather" vanes but i was looking at Cabela's and I'm wondering if I should try out the shorter blazer vanes. I know a lot of guys use these with compound bows, but I'm concerned that they won't work as good with a recurve do to the lack of speed. The rest on my bow will support the use of solid vanes so that's not the concern. My biggest question I guess is can I switch to the shorter ones with a recurve or do they not perform as well? What have any of you done?

My advice would be to find a buddy with some Blazers and shoot them to see.  The physics behind them rely on speed and energy...neither of which will you have.  If you've got 4" feathers working, then I'd say stick with what works.  If you want to get away from the problems of feathers, then maybe look at 4" vanes instead of the Blazers.

I think Blazers are overrated I would stick with what works for you, and not get caught up in the hype. :twocents:

I'm looking to get away from feathers which is why I'm looking into the different types of vanes. The 4" seem to be a little cheaper in most cases, but I also know you get what you pay for which is why I'm asking all of you.
