Title: reloading data needed
Post by: Mookie on August 24, 2009, 09:29:00 PM
I picked up some Hornady 220 grain Interlock for my 300 win mag. They were on sale and I decided to try something new. However, I can't find any data on loading them. I checked my speer manual, newest available, a hornady manual, few years old, plus multiple online sources, I finally emailed Hornady and asked them, however it could be awhile before I get a response.

Does anyone have the data available, or experience with this particular weight? I was thinking of using the 200 grain loads and seeing how they work, but don't want to chance anything as I am fairly new to reloading.

Thanks.

If you want to use some lighter loads I can help you out.  220's are a little heavy for my likings though.  Good luck, reloading is a lot of fun.

Thanks for the help and links.

Looks like I will be using IMR 4831 with a min load of 60.1 gr and max of 69.2 and that will push it anywhere from 2,400 to 2,700 FPS, depending on variables.

You don't say what powder you are planning to use for this bullet/caliber combo.  What ever brand you use, go to their website and you will find load data.  I use Hodgdon powder, Hodgdon now owns Winchester and IMR powders as well.  All powders are shown on their data site, they have one of the best online data sites on the internet.  Regardless, other powder manufacturers publish data as well.  The bullet manufacturers are much less inclined to provide data, and I find them of little use.  Possibly they do not want to interfere with their book sales, I don't know.  So try the powder manufacturers...

MIGHT WANT TO PUSH IT UP TO A H1000. I have a good friend who reloads for WinMag and thats what he uses.

If your thinking about using IMR 4831, I would consider using Hodgdon H4831 instead.  It is not as sensitive to climate changes and performs a little better.  I switched over this year and was using IMR 4831 in my 300, 7mm, and 270.

Lot of info to go over. Thanks for it all. I will probably try a couple of different powders with multiple loads. My Savage shoots dang good with factory Federal 180's, MOA at 200Y, so that is what I will leave it sighted in for during hunting season. Then spring will come.
