You guys asked if anybody owns a camera who fishes Buoy 10, so I made sure to bring mine today...
Took my girlfriend (Crystal), and a couple buddies down to fish the Astoria area. We launched at Deep River at dark thirty and made our way towards the bridge in the dark. We were fishing just as it was getting light...

Started out trolling upriver since the tide was already coming in, and we had to release a small wild silver on our first pass. It was kind of off and on for us the whole day, but we managed about 20 bites, hooked 12, landed 7, but only one keeper.
Sun deciding to come out....

It was a good day to be out on the water though, and Crystal got to reel in two wild silvers (her first two salmon ever). We didn't get pictures of most of the fish, but towards the end of the day, Crystal started being our photographer.

Definitely a great day on the water. The weather was great too.

Was the Deep River launch busy? If I was to get my boat back soon I was thinking of launching at DR to avoid some of the crowds and put a little more time on the new motor.

Nice day. I love those 20+ fish days.Running herring???
We ran herring on one rod most days and i think i will never buy bait again. Waist of time and money.
If you are above the bridge i would run spinners, and at the bouy i would run the brads cut plug super bait.
We ran hootchie spinners and the brads cut plug at the bouy and cought many mpre fish as those using herring or anchovies.
In the ocean i use coyote spoons, so i doubt i will ever buy bait again.

We were running herring and the Super Baits. All fish came on herring though.

--The crowds wont be to bad after sept 1st and if the wind picks up its no fun getting back to deep river if your way down by the bridge or lower but if your boats big it shouldnt be that big of a deal. :twocents:

The Deep River launch wasn't busy at all and the afternoon wind is the reason i launch there. 99% of the time the wind blows upriver and it is much more enjoyable to run a little farther with the wind than it is to run back to Chinook against the wind. :twocents:

We left the bridge a little after noon on sunday and got the crap beat out of us on the ride back to Chinook. That is what I get for running a flat bottom work boat out there. :P I need to learn to use something other than herring. We went through 3 dozen and they all went soft after a very short time. The only fish we caught were on fresh, still partially frozen herring, nothing over a half hour old.

I like launching at the east mooring basin. Quick run across the sands to the WA side.
