might sound dumb because I don't know much about cameras. but I am trying to talk my wife into a new camera. Not sure what one yet ( 50D or Rebel XSi ). It will be a Canon most likely. I seen some good pictures takes with the Canon EF 24-70mm F 2/8L USM lens. Is this a good all around ( not for long range wildlife but kids and family vacation type pictures ) Any other ideas for good lens for this type of pictures?

Hello, Craig!
Another Canon camera to consider would be the 40D. It is less expensive than the 50D, and much better than the Rebel series. Some who have used both the 40D and 50D have claimed that the 40D is actually the better camera, due to it's low "noise" (graininess) when shooting at higher ISOs (higher ISO settings are used in low light situations).
Popeshawnpaul uses a 40D for many of his images, and anyone who spends time on the photography section of this forum can attest to the excellent quality of his images.

I like the Canon 70-200 2.8 with IS. Its on my wishlist. I think it takes some of the best pics out there with some versatility and low light. Other than a prime like the 400, I think it has also proven itself as being one of the better lens Canon has put out. Its not exactly budget though.
