i will tell a little story and the get the pics up. my friend terry and i went to do some scouting, maybe see if we could find a bear. stopped at our jumping off point and while putting bino's on heard a bull bugle VERY CLOSE, decided bear was off for a while, lets go get a picture. while sneaking up heard another bull a little further off but very in-bound. decided to try to split the difference and headed for the center. got to a clearing in time to see the two bulls lock eyes and it was on. boys and girls if you have never seen it up close, my god that is LOUD. we watched em scrap it out for a little bit when the smaller bull's left antler breaks completely off! very cool folks. i will post pics, sorry about quality, POS camera

more pics please. thats a once in a lifetime thing to see there.
-
What an awesome experience! To be able to get the pics and the antler is pretty cool.
-
That is an absolutely amazing series of pictures. Talk about timing!!!
-
wish i had more to post, things were happening pretty fast, and to be totally honest there was little bit there i wasnt sure whether to *censored* or go blind. as soon as the antler broke off he was headed right at me and i got caught trying to sneak closer and had no cover, took the pic of him at about 15 yds, thought it was gonna get a little western for a minute
-
did that antler break off right at the base?
that bull looks like he just got his ass handed to him and it hurts like mad at the same time.
-
That is absolutely amazing bro!
was that east side or what?
not asking where ur honey hole is just wondering...
havent heard a single bugle this YEAR where i hunt elk :dunno:
to see a fight and get a horn...crazzy
thats awesome bro
-
there is still some of what i believe is skull still attatched to it, poor guy was in a serious hurt locker
-
east side, in the ********. the bulls were going NUTS screaming all over the place, was a great day to be in the hills
-
Way cool...I've had a bull almost run me over as well....definite pucker factor :yike:
-
can you take a pic of the base part of the busted antler?
that is awesome! cool story
-
Very cool, thanks for posting those!
-
great story
-
bullblaster,
i will get some pics of the base put up here in a little bit
-
that is pretty damn cool, I saw something similar years ago but it was only a broken tine. I still have it somewhere I think. As stupid as it may seem, or I guess as stupid as the law actually is, keeping that antler is illegal. I would likely keep it too and take my chances but just FYI.
-
never said i kept it ;) just took some pic's
-
just called olympia, was told "any naturally shed antler can be kept, doesnt matter how it was shed as long as not caused by any act of man". so maybe i did keep it :chuckle:
-
Nice, I was just thinking about that after I typed the post, it really was a natural act that caused it to "shed". I was thinking it could be along the lines of finding a winter kill bull skull with antlers attached but not really the more I think about it, you just have an antler and an act of nature caused it to be "shed"
That is of course if you did keep it. :chuckle:
-
actually, my buddy terry who is the guy in the pic are trying to work out the details of custody
-
I am not seeing any pictures here. Have they been posted or is my computer setting messed up?
-
Unbelievable Why can't I get that lucky
-
That is awesome. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. To bad you could not video it . I would of loved to see That.
-
Wow thats awsome! Good luck seeing that happen again.
-
Awesome story!!!! If that don't get your rocks, off nothin' will
-
yeah not likely, i was shaking like a little kid after it was over. i have taken several butt chewins over "the one time you bring that damn video camera"
-
Wow! Getting the chance to witness this and take home a steaming antler is a once in a lifetime deal. Very cool.
I heard two bulls going at int NM one year right before dark. I ran my tail off to get there in time to sneak in for a shot but they were going NUTS, spinning around in a cloud of dust. I was inside 50 yards but there was no way to get an ethical shot off with all that commotion. I just sat back and watched the fight until it got dark. The vocal whining they were doing was unlike any elk sound I'd heard and the antler clatter noise carried a long way. After seeing two 300+ class bulls putting every ounce of energy into a battle, it's no wonder they snap main beams like twigs.

here are pics of the base as promised

:o that's a cool story
-
Nice!
-
That is just way cool !!! Were those horn base pictures taken at Luttrell's ?
-
why yes they were, have we met?
-
We may have met at some time. :hello: I used to work there and still stop in from time to time to talk to Doug. My name is Kent.
-
ok kent, i know who you are, good to see you on here
-
Ouch, you think he has a headache tonight??
-
i guess i am really wondering if he will live through it and if he does what will future antler growth be like?
-
Damn, that's awesome!
-
It will heal up fine. Just a little exposed scalp until it nobs over. He may have some non-typical growth on it next year if it grows back.
-
Holy carp, that's awesome. What an amazing thing to witness. Makes me wish I lived closer to the hills.
-
Jim's a big sissy and was too busy checking to see if he peed his pants instead of taking more pictures :chuckle:
-
:iamwithstupid: and this what happens when you work with the bosses kid :bash:
-
That is an awesome story. Very cool.
