Basically a 30-06 and would work accordingly.  Use an expanding bullet of appropriate weight on big game, and anything you want on coyotes.

 :yeah:

I have a Mosin Nagant and would like use it on a doe hunt one of these days.  Look for some S&B 180 gr soft point.  You can install a scout-type scope mount to increase range/accuracy.  Good luck.

thanks,  i have two mosin nagants,  one is coustomised into a deer rifle,   haven't hunted with it yet,  but its very accurate, i hit 6 inch groups at 130 yards,  i don't know if thats good or not,  but its the farthest i'll ever need to shoot,

I have the most beautiful Mosin 91/30 i have ever seen.
Fun Rifle to plink around with and the fireballs are fun.

You can also buy surplus ammo & hand remove the bullets and press in a soft point expanding bullet also.

i bought it from a friend who hand picked it himself in a warehouse, his buddy was an importer.
called him up and he went and selected it.
Kicks like a mule, i like it lol!
my Turkish 8mm mauser isnt bad either, but when i got it it was a dog of a mess. took me three months to get the cosmoline out of it. Still has alot on there but its sealed in now..
open sights at 192 yards, i hit the steel plate at Paul Bunyan range easily.

I will be using this one for Deer and Elk when given the chance.
Probably no hunts for me this year due to layoff though.
Might use the 7.65 Mauser sporter carbine instead though. depends on which one gets scoped first.

i just recently coustomised my mosin nagant,   had the barel cut down, rebuilt the bolt handle, and made a custom scope mount and put a scope on the gun,    very acurate,  the whole coutomazation, + the gun cost me just above $50,  and was fun coustomizing it,   currently making a coustim stock for it.

Great deer round, safety on the gun sucks, I made a removeable block for hunting safety, also walked with bolt closed but not locked.  I have gotten one deer with it.  I think the ballistics are closer to a .308 than a 30-06.  Mine will whack bowling pins at 200 yards with the open sights using surplus ball ammo.  I think the sights are calibrated for a 180 or 200 grain bullet.
