been wanting to get back into upland bird hunting and was looking at the army corp of engineers website and found big flat is this place worth checking out for quail, pheasants (coyotes?) i don't have a dog yet (hopefully next year) so will be dogless is it worth it or should i look somewhere else? also is this a non tox area? thanks

Not a nontoxic shot area until 2011 (see p.20 of the FREE WA Migratory Waterfowl & Upland Game Seasons pamphlet).
Without a dog, any pheasant or quail hunting will be TOUGH, but possible. Check the WDFW website; not sure if Big Flat is a pheasant release area or not.

I am assuming you mean the area adjacent to Dalton lake, along the Snake. It is a pheasant release area and it gets hit pretty hard. I've hunted it a couple of times without a dog and it is tough because it is so open (at least along the river portion). Without a dog, I would concentrate on the cornfield area, as it should concentrate the birds a bit more. It is a hike to get to, but it is a good looking area. You'll probably end up seeing more pheasants on your drive out to Big Flat than you will actually in the hunting area!

yeah i think thats it. i might check it out later in the season
