You could do a caption contest for the fellow on the right.
"Bringin' home the bacon honey."
-
No he did not die in the road, I wish, we used a 4 wheeler to get him there and a lot of mule tape. It would have been easier to have quartered him. Rookie move on my part. Wasted a lot of time and energy.

Just got back sorry so long on the details. I was hunting near the Blue Mountains. He was spotted by my folksfeeding with a cow in the wheat field and they watched him drop into a draw. I was looking over another heard at the time with 10+ Bulls but nothing over a 4x4. Loaded up on scent block because the wind was all wrong, and creeped to the edge of the draw. We spotted him at 150 yards laying straignt away looking down the draw. I have a bi-pod so I dropped the legs and after a couple of minutes of shaking I took the shot and hit him at the base of the neck. The first hit rolled him over, I reloaded and thought he was going to stay down, but he got up and started to walk away. I missed the second shot but he did a 180 and came at me at an angle, then he stopped on a old logging road and looked at me just as I was finnishing reloading and I hit him just above the heart and he went over hard and stayed down. We pulled him down the road for about 150 feet after gutting him then used a 4 wheeler to pull him down to as far as we could drive the truck up the road. I had a ton of help from my cousin and my folks.
-
Great bull man! Will be tough to match that one!

Boy that is a nice first Elk congrats
-
Thompson Center Black Diamond is the Muzzleloader I use. I am shooting T/C shockwaves.
-
Thanks for the muzzy info.....now....what did he score?
-
Boom Whop, congrats again on such a stud bull. The new pic's really show him off. I think I ran into you one day up at the gun range in Kenmore. I am pretty sure it was you up there shooting 2 differen muzzys. Not sure we chatted for awhile and I remember you (if it was you) mentioning you had a bull tag. Anyhow way to get it done.
-
Most excellent. Next time you are on campus I want to hear the full story....
-
His gross is about 340 and his net is about 328....I found the bullet pic's
-
drying period is over, time to get him scored. Yea haa.
-
That's one heck of a bull, nice job:) Can't wait to hear what he scores at!
-
shock wave looks good to me, very nice bull. How many points did you have? I have 14 and still waiting for the muzzy blue mountain tag, looks like the weather was pretty nice where you were at. What kind of peep sites do you have, i still have the fiber sites on my t/c and they have already broke. Great bull.
-
Well I took him to the sports man show in Puyallup and took 2nd, rocky mountian elk typical taken in 2009. He grossed 333 5/8 and netted 320 7/8. I had a great season and hope the guys that pull the any BULL tags in 2010 have as much fun as I had.
-
Congrats!!!!
-
Great Bull! I have been thinking about putting peep sights on mine too. What kind did you put on?
-
i put williams peeps on it. they are the bomb. while they pounded the bulls eye in practice it was really like looking down a scope during the real deal. When I pulled the trigger the last time I knew I drillled him dead center. I was standing and it was a rush shot, but those peeps sights made finding him a no brainer. Bench shooting was fun but the way these sights work in the field.... wow. My buddies give me crap about what a crappy shot I am, but not any more. LOL I also used a ghost ring on my peep. This setup was the one recommended to me by the muzzy shop on the Puyallup river road.
-
curious, how many pellets did you use on that bull and what size was your bullet? Again nice bull.
-
I shoot loose triple 7 2 -F with a 250 grain bullet. I found that 110 grains goes all the way through the elk, but did not exit. Both Bullets stopped in the skin on the far side. The pics of the bullets are above.
-
Probably a stupid question since your current system seems to be working for you, but have you tried the pellets? I'm pretty new to the smoke pole but seems the pellets are easier also when i have talked to people in the past about bullet weight it was always recommended that i use 300 to 350? But it seems your 250 worked pretty well, I'm confused about what exactly to use???? Thanks for your help.

my gun shoots those 250 grn sabots well also. I am shooting 100 grains of loose 777 powder with them but I don't think I'd use them for elk. The 295 grain aerotipped copper powerbelts would be my elk getter I guess...just cuzz I have always heard bigger is better. Obviously the 250 sabots work as seen by this thread though...
I've not had great results with the pellets and I've heard a lot of the same. I think you get good results but better with the loose powder. They are definitely easier.
-
I guess I'll have to put them both to the test, powder V's pellets and see which one my gun likes better. Would you keep the grains at 100 for the elk load? I do like the 295 idea though, thanks for your input.
-
Hey to those of you with the same Peola tag, good luck I left all the bigger ones for you guys this year. Have fun and bring a better camera than I did.
-
that is a fine bull any hunter should be proud of right there and if you left the big ones i would hate to see them :yike:
-
I think the luck has something to do with the hat. ;)
