Sooo, I am at work tonight , all night. My buddy takes my wife out for pm hunt, kids at baby sitters,... yes I trust him.
They are on elk , first bull comes in 50yds, POP! cap only! She reloads , they circle around em,10 min later call a rag horn back in ,POP, cap only! WTF???? RELOAD AGAIN, back on elk 20 min later, call in a " big four point" she says , and yep you guessed it, POP no fire.
I just loaded it last night for her, and put a cap through it first . They head back to the road, find a back stop and try to fire the gun again. BOOM!!! Now the damn thing goes off.
She is sick to her stomach.
This was her over the phone version.

ouch!

Guess it wasnt meant to be. Sounds like my Oregon hunt. Three shots, three misses.

that sucks, but at least she got on to elk and had the chance

She is ready for tomorrow when I get home from work.

I've seen that before too many times for my liking! I guess that is part of hunting, but it's dang tough to explain to somebody else. One thing that may have happened that you can avoid is not bringing a cold gun into a warm house/tent/cabin; it'll draw moisture more often than not. We leave them unloaded inside or loaded ones stay outside locked in the pickup.

that sucks! :bash:
I have some buddies that this happened to this year also??????

Ouch, good tip Todd!

That sucks. :( Had it happen to me before.....but only once. Three times would really be tough to swallow. Will she be switching over to modern rifle next year?

I had the same problem with my muzzy & that is why I switched to archery. I actually solved my problem & recommend this to all black powder guys. One day I shot an animal & loaded for a follow up which miss fired 5 minutes after loading. I removed the nipple and found no powder in sight ! After that day I would load as normal ( ff ) & then remove nipple , and add a little fff powder in the breech wherer the nipple threads in. Problem solved & NEVER miss fired again, even when loaded all day. Hope this helps. Mike

Thanks for the tips guys. She got another shot 2 days before the season ended , LARGE 5 PT. Yes the gun went BANG! No she did not hit it! :bash:
Its tough giving up shots to your wife and not taking them my self, We both still have tags. UgggHHHH.
