Title: Mushroom Hunting
Post by: ouchfoss on October 12, 2009, 02:53:01 PM
Every year around hunting season, my dad, my girlfriend and I pick caulifower mushrooms to eat with whatever animal we get during early season whether its elk, deer, bear or grouse, and this year there seems to be several good size ones growing. We had to pick a couple of them 2 days ago because they were mature enough that letting them grow any longer would more than likely let them go bad.  The two that we picked were about 10 lbs a piece. There is a third one that is probably between 15 to 20 lbs that is still really fresh so its gonna be left alone to grow a little more until thursday when we're going to pick it to bring to the annual  mushroom show at the Lake Quinault Lodge. In the same spot the larger one is growing 3 years ago I found one growing that weighed 40 lbs  :o and brought it to mushroom show. If anyone is interested in the mushroom show, its going to be fri, sat, and sunday at the lodge.

Very interesting. Love eating wild mushrooms with game I have harvested. Will try and make it to the shoe
Thanks and interesting pics

Can you dry or can these types of mushrooms?

We've never tried canning them before until this year. We just canned up 7 pint jars of them and we'll try a jar in a couple days and see how they are as far and being crisp or mushy.
