I saw that on an add on versus... is it the one where he is on a ledge and shoots the elephant off the cliff...

either way its insane.

Suddenly Im trying to decide if I could pull a 130 pound compound bow...lol  I know people have killed E's with a bow but never thought about a cross bow before.

It would have been better if he would have done it old school, you know with a sharp stick! :chuckle: If I ever went elephant hunting it wouldn't be with anything that wasn't propelled by a lot of gun powder!!!!!!!!!!

If I remember right, Fred Bear used a 110 lb recurve to hunt elephant.  I wouldn't want to wrestle that guy.

I guess I dont understand elephant hunting. I know its a total rush, but they seem too much of a majestic animal to me to hunt. Howard Hughs killed and elephant back in the day with a steel arrow. I dont remember what the arrow weight was but it was HEAVY!  Don't quote me, but I think he was pulling like 125 lbs with his custom recurve too.

who the hell would want to shoot an elephant? let alone with a bow? that thing must suffer for about a year before it finally kicks off.

It's been done successfully quite a few times.  And while many of the shots are quick and humane, there is a good chance some won't be.  There is a video on it if you want to see it done multiple times.  I think huntflix has it still.  It's like any type of hunting, probably similar to Bison.  You just walk up to them and kill them, and hope they don't kill you.  Not sure it's my thing but I'm not gonna speak against it.

Read Capsticks stories about elephants...you'll never want to leave the house!!  The 'real' hunts are way more than the 'walk up to it and shoot' hunts.  Those things can be mean...and they're big.  :P

I would shoot an good tusker Elephant in a second!!!!!!  I would have to disagree with it being easy or not dangerous.  Based on everything I have read or watched Elephant hunting is anything but easy.  Ranges of kill are no different them any other dangerous game including a vast majority of plains game.  The archery shot takes longer then and antelope to die, but when factoring in animal size and blood volume very comparable.  Same thing for any animal comparing archery to rifle.  The only animal I would not have a current desire to hunt would be some of the very very rare and endangered animals or inside a fence.  Almost all others are good to go for me.

I don't think I would ever have to worry about going on an elephant hunt. I would never be able to afford it!! Besides that, if I did have the money to afford it, elephant wouldn't be no where near the top of my list of animals to kill.
