i blew it big time. :bash:
first buck i see today was a 3x4 with eye guards i think :dunno: anyway 80yd downhill shot, perfect rest and miss. i was shaking like a leaf in the wind. i seen the bullet hit the branches 2 inches above his back.
then about an hour later we see a big deer and a smaller one running across a hill. after getting around to the hill they were one and trecking through the clearcut with my dad. we are on our way back to the truck no more then 35yds from my mom and i hear a THUD. i looked back at my dad with that why are you stomping look. and as soon as i turn back around i see a huge body standing 30ft from me. before i could get the gun off my shoulder all i see is horns and ass. NO TEXAS HEART SHOTS FOR ME. anyway i couldnt even get the scope on him by the time he was gone.
about 30 minutes later i ran into the same buck with his nose up a does butt, but by the time i realized what was going on they snuck into some vine maple and then into the thickest ferns they could find.
what a windy gross rainy day in vail. but about 3pm the deer started moving in our little area. and my parents seen a really big bodied spike. no shot for them either.
when we left out of vail around 6pm there were only 30 deer checked. the biggest was just a 2pt.

oh well. Sounds like a good experience. Buck fever will get better with each passing year and especially after every kill. Good luck.

You went hunting and saw deer  I bet you saw more bucks than most. You must be doing something right. Mark

Bummer about the bucks. We went up there last night (got there around 4pm), saw 6 deer, 1 spike, and I decided to fill the freezer with him. Now I can go back to fishing. :)
