Title: amazing!!!
Post by: BLUEBULLS on October 19, 2009, 04:20:33 PM
haha, I just had to post something about the numbers of hunters in the foothills of the blues. I went up to play cards with the boys and find a few elk. It's absolutely amazing, the masses of people that you see, most start road hunting about an hour or two into opening morning and are hard at it again about 30 minutes before dark. there were actually traffic jams on the gravel roads.

Kinda fun to watch a buck run through three canyons and three or four 6 to 10 shot volleys.

anyone else get a kick out of this as much as i do? :chuckle:

That's why I went duck hunting this week-end. We will start looking for deer on Wednesday.

I saw that, I shot my buck in Odessa early Saturday morning and took off down to Walla Walla to get my buck hung and then cut up....I have never seen soo many hunters out on the roads, stuffed in cars, trucks, and vans in my life...Is that really hunting? From my Great Uncle's Cabin, we saw 2 or 3 shooters, just while eating my bbq'd backstraps...and this was all on public land, had someone only gotten outta a truck...

I was thinking about this the other day, how crowded the foothills are. I can't bring myself to do it. My daughters boy friend asked me if I wanted go out with them on sunday. I appreciate the offer (honestly) he is a damn good kid, but the thought of that zoo just doesn't work for me. I think I will spring for an out of state tag and liscence for him next year so he can experience the fun of not having some one else ruin your stalk or so he can watch the animals in a natural state, not with there tongues hanging out. There are so many people out there you are more likely to glass up someone takin a dump than you are a descent buck.

The son and I headed out for an evening hunt about 3:00 yesterday and I was amazed at the numbers.  We hiked up on a little ridge and only saw one hunter actually off the road.  Didn't see many deer either.  We did see some guys trying to sneak up on some deer in a field on the way home.  So dark you could only see the outline of hunters and deer on the horizon.

I was up on Lewis Peak with my dad, I ML so I was just tagging along to get away and help him if needed.  I was amazed at the amount of people on Lewis Pk road, people setting up camp right off the roads, tents set up out in the middle of wheat fields, road hunters one after another.  Made me remember why I switched to ML.  My dad had an opportunity at a nice 4 pt WT on our property, but it was right at dark and he wasn't confident enough in his sight to take a shot so he let it walk, he still had 15 minutes of legal shooting but he wasn't comfortable and that's all that mattered, I could hardly stand it watching that buck walk away, but I have much younger eyes than him.  Got kind of side tracked, seeing all those hunters in such small areas makes me think we need to get a better program going to access private land, it will probably require us to open our wallets a little farther though.  I just can't see taking my boys down there when the time comes, pretty scary with people shooting across canyons at each other.

I spent opening weekend just east of the blue mountain foothills. Overall I saw less hunters than usual. The only hunters we did see were the guys in our group (private land). I didnt head for the mountains but i did hear there was something like 5 arrests up there opening weekend from felons hunting to people selling meth.

I drove through mud creek in the Entiat on Saturday about 10am.  The only thing the Colockum general elk season has on the Entiat deer season is trees.  For the life of me, I can't figure out what those people think is going to happen when you've got bare open hillsides, tons of roads, and camps/trucks/hunters every 300 yards.  If there isn't a buck standing in front of you at first light, might as well head for breakfast, cuz nothing is getting through that gauntlet.  Judging by all the wall tents in there, maybe they just stake out their spot and pray for snow to move some bucks in?   :dunno:
