Title: west side river guide
Post by: jwroberts on December 30, 2007, 07:54:15 PM
looking for positive recs on a fishing guide on one of the rivers, whatever is in season.  new to fishing the rivers and myself and 3 buddies want to catch a few fish and have a fun time.  If you also know the price  that would be great.  We are hoping for something between 200-300, boat or shore fishing, we don't care.  Thanks

:) I only know of one guide.  I am thinking of booking a trip with him myself.  I have talked with him in person several times.  Seams like a realy nice guy.  I'm not sure what his rates are.

Where on the west side do you want to fish?  Puget sound area, SW WA, or the Olympic Peninsula?

An awesome guide on the Skagit is Rob Endsley (pacific-northwest-sportfishing.com).  There are quite a few good ones on the Peninsula, but you'll be hard pressed to find one better than Bob Ball (piscatorialpursuits.com).  Here's some recent pics from Bob.  http://www.piscatorialpursuits.com/riverreports.htm

I've fished with both and can vouch that these two know their craft better than anyone.

Robbin Rhoades (quinaultguideservice.com) is on the Quinault reservation, and is generally known as the best out there.  In SW WA, there are several that fish the Cowlitz, Lewis, etc.  Try Clancy Holt (clancysfishing.com), or Keith Archer for the Lewis (ultimateguideservice.com).

Hey speaking of fishing guides. I met a guide in Marysville, Wa when I lived there from 1999-2004. I met him at the fly shop that was nearly on State Street in downtown area next door to a hair dresser.
From what the shop owner said he was fairly good at his job but did not suffer fools, poor sportsmen etc. PM me if you know his name and reputation.
How about Mr. Smith the guy who used to own the fly shop? Is he still in business guiding? If so he would be a good choice I believe. But you guys living in the Marysville-Everett area would have to help me out with names etc., because I've lost all the contacts I had there except one, Slow.

I dont fish rivers and I think I know who he is, if its the one I'm thinking, I wouldn't let him guide me to a turd in a toilet bowl.  Just my 2 cents.

Well, that's not the one I was orginally thinking of, but I agree with the toilet bowl comment that was made. Bad stories from multiple buddies who have fished with him.
