I drew a special tag in sequim this year for a management hunt. Got called on Saturday night at about 8pm, got asked to be in sequim at 6 am. Left the house at 3am, got in sequim and began the hunt once it got light out! All the elk came into the corn feild i was in, but they were real spooky and trying to find a way past me to leave (if they left the feild i wouldn't be able to hunt cause they would be in a no hunting area). All the big 6x6 bulls were in the middle of the herd and i couldn't get a shot off at any of them. Then here comes this spike, he tried to pick a fight with one of the big bulls and he got ran out of the herd. I had an opportunity to bring some meat home and get my first elk, and i took it. There were 28 bulls in the herd so at first it was a little disappointing to just get a spike, however, Roosevelt spikes are illegal here unless you get one of those special tags like i did so that's pretty tight!
Look at the bases on this thing! HUGE! Ima do a European mount and put it in my room! :IBCOOL: Anyways, enjoy!
Oh, by the way, i shot it at like 90 yards, dropped it. Broke both shoulders and went through both lungs. Then he tried to get back up (well kinda haha) and I nailed him in the head. :chuckle:

No, it was down around houses so I had to use a shotgun. I used a 12 gauge.

Great job, and nice pics. I have not given up hope to still kill my first elk this year. I am hopping it will happen late Archery in Nov. Again, super nice spike and that gonna be some good meat!!! Congrats to you and your Dad!!!!
-
If B&C had a category for "spikes", you just shot a Booner spike! I've never seen mass like that on a spike. That will make a great European mount.
-
243girl,
Reason I asked about the weapon is cuz I believe all of the area north of 101 there has a ban on modern firearms. Not positive about it, but I used to bowhunt all over around there when I lived in Port Angeles and some of my buddies HAD to use scatterguns for deer.
Regardless, that is the thickest, heaviest, and burliest spike that I have seen in a long time.

Great job 243girl, thats a dandy bull. Mark

It was a management hunt and your only aloud to use a shotgun (because of the close houses and things). It was all cleared. :)

Then he tried to get back up (well kinda haha) and I nailed him in the head. :chuckle:
You're a tad demented! :chuckle:

Cool, cant wait to see how it turned out!
-
Got to be the coolest spike i've ever laid eyes on, congrats!
-
That is a fat spike, congrats
-
Congratulations. Nice spike. Did they let you dress it in the field or did you have to take it elsewhere?
-
That spike is atleast a 2 1/2 year old. The heard here is Sequim is very in-bread and the 1 1/2 olds have about 6" spikes. The horns are very slow growing to become a branched bulls. Very common for 2 1/2 year olds to be large spikes.
-
Nice.
-
Dang that's a big animal! Trophy for sure. Congrats.

That is the single best quote I've read in a long time. You are having one great season. There are ton's of guys on here that are still chasing that elusive spike, and you've passed them. Congrats. I'm sure all the boys at school are jealous, and they should be. Congrats again on the elk.
-
Well done young lady!

No, we had to take it to the "guides" house and do it in his field.
