Has anyone got any info on where to go for fox? Would love to get one but have no idea where to go. :dunno:
-
NE corner is where I got mine. It has the best huntable population as far as I am concerned for Washington state. I have heard of a few in the Klickitat area though I haven't confirmed. I couldn't tell you about westside. I've seen one in the Methow and one in the Naches area, though wouldn't want to bet my life on finding one there.
-
Thanks bone, I may have to sniff around up that way.
-
I missed one last year in the Desert unit. Suckers are real fast. Only one I have every seen out here though. We use to see a few over near pullman
-
They are fast and alot smaller than they look. They are VERY susceptible to calling....WAY ore so than coyotes. I think half of it is curiosity.
-
There are tons in the wheat fields and draws around Pullman. Red and grey.

Great info thanks.

Ironically Ive seen one here on "Fox Island" My wife talked to a guy down the road who has see many around his place.

Friday harbor out in the San Juans is loaded with them. I seen two this year in Skagit county while out elk scouting, theres a few around.
-
They have grey fox in this state? I thought they were some what of a southern states animal.
-
Michelle, not sure what kind, but i have seen fox twice, on Eastbay drive in Olympia, within 100 feet of the bay....
-
your not alone iceman, i live out toward boston harbor and i see a red fox every couple weeks at night around priest point park.
-
Yep, I saw these two near the Berry St Hill, just South of the park.
-
Michelle, yeah, they have grey fox. In fact, I think I remember seeing more of them around Pullman area than red fox. Here is a link to their range.

+1.
i killed 1 in new york state a few years ago deer hunting. a bad idea, from personal experience, is to shoot 1 with a 30.06. lets just say i didn't have to field dress the animal. their is a mount of that critter in a little taxidermy shop in upstate NY...last time i saw him he was set up right next to a full body mount african lion.
i was surprised how small it was...i had a picture in my head of something a lot bigger i guess.
-
So what you are saying Jack is all there left to mount was the tail?? :)
-
the guy got him put back together pretty damn good. it was a front facing shot

:chuckle: :chuckle: Thats funny I was going to post East Bay Drive. I live out that way and I have seen about 6 or so last year. A bunch out by boston harbor also.
-
i personally have only seen two in western washington. the most recent i was on my way to the nisq. wildlife area and had one run out in front of me, thought it was a really small yote, till i saw the dark legs, white tip on the tail. the other was in an abandoned farm field it was mousing around. there definetly on the wetside though.
-
I saw one on the top of white pass while night skiing a few years back. Thats the only one I have seen. I talked to a guy in the wenas last year who had shot and missed one off of sheep co rd. but it sounds like there are pockets of them here and there. good luck.
-
Cool, didn't know their were Grey Fox here. Havn't seen any fox yet. I think the Grey's make the nicest looking mounts. I've got a Life-Size Grey Fox mounted at my house. It and the Wild Boar were the only 2 mounts I brought with me when I moved.
-
Speaking of, saw one yesterday and got to show my wifer her first fox, by Ephrata. Sure a cut bushy thing. Mostly tail. Not the reddest of them, but would have been a nice trophy.
-
We called in a Grey near the Winchester Wasteway Rest Area on I-90 last season. Didn't shoot him, as we had a coyote comeing also, didn't get the coyote either.

I've seen a few fox in Klickitat county but they are few and far between.
-
theres two different types of fox in washington. both are a red fox, one is called a cascade red fox and i forget what the other one is called. they look the same, just in different areas. one lives up in the cascades and eastern washington, while the other lives in the lowlands like below the olympics. granted them things could be anywhere in the state, but thats just the general area that there supposed to be in
-
I know where on lives here in Yakima/Selah. Less than 5 min. out of town.
-
I saw a black fox today very cool looking no camera i was working
-
Haven't seen any of the four legged kind in Selah

I know where on lives here in Yakima/Selah. Less than 5 min. out of town.
Maybe that's the one I saw a year or so ago. In the Selah gap by the greenway eating garbage. At first I thought it was a house cat. He's safe as long as he stays near the greenway.
-
Thats what the one I saw today looked like They are awsome looking
-
Saw one last week early in the morning, crossed the road in my headlights. First one I have ever seen in the wild. Thought it was a cat at first but when I got about 25 feet away I saw it was an orange fox.
-
i know there are some along columbia river in areas i have seen only a handful ever

Ironically Ive seen one here on "Fox Island"
I saw one there too.......about 20 years ago.
-
I've only seen 2 in my time living in Ferry county and that was 2 grey fox kits playing in a field with a dead mouse or something. Wish i had a camera, among the coolest things i've seen
-
I used to trap fox in Oregon. I trapped a lot of grey and there were fewer reds where I lived but I got a few. I love the grey fox.
I've only seen three of them in western WA since 1983. All greys. One was a road kill in Bellevue.
There are a lot more of them in Oregon than here. Coyotes like to eat them but the grey can climb a tree even without limbs.
Did you know that the red is not native to the U.S.? They aren't native in Australia either and they are everywhere down there.

she is call shy but can be baited ;) mostly with very expensive and sparkly bait :bash:
-
I've seen them on Ft Lewis and saw one this summer on the way to Port Angeles, just past the hood canal bridge. All the ones I've seen were red. Mike
-
I know there are some here on the Island. Sneaky little buggers though.

You can't shoot fox inside Mt. Baker-Snoqualomie, Wenatchee, Okanagon, or Gifford-Pinchot National forests, or GMU 407 and 410.
I had one run out in front of me in Ellensburg, last summer. I thought it was a mangy dog at first.

I've seen maybe a couple dozen around tri-cities. the last was about two weeks ago. It was fighting with a cat in the middle of the road. i had to stop and rub my eyes. It was barely bigger than the cat.
I was down at the river a couple of years ago shooting my bow on a course I made and a black fox, which I guess is a color variation of a red, came out at right by my target. He took off as I was drawing. Damn things are tiny and I probably would have missed anyway.
Theres' getting to be more and more around here, especially in and around town.
-
thank's Brandon. need to write it down. called in one grey Fox two year's ago in oklahoma came right to me with a coaxer and my RR1 call. very cool pretty color's. and that year called two Red's in at night in PA wasnt quick enough. and south of Boise Idaho in a calling tornament seen a black Fox. going to Hunt Utah, Arizona, new mexico this year. might get Lucky on grey's and swift Fox would be cool. Rick
-
Saw a dead one last week on HWY 410 just before you get to Bonney Lake
-
I saw a silver one in the Siouxon year ago. Cant shoot them in the Gifford Pinchot though. Anyone know if you can trap fox in Gifford Pinchot?
-

-
haven't seen any here but in TN I had one walk right up to me when I was bow hunting at about 6 ft he kept trying to play with me jumping back and forth around a bush I was leaning against and I tried to shoo him away but he wouldn't leave ended up shooting him from about 10 ft and he ran across the field and jumped in a hole before he died...so much for bowhunting he was a pretty cool looking red.
-
saw a grey looking one a couple weeks ago at mt rainer.
-
Never taken one in this state. But when we were kids my cousin caught a pup by the Black Lake firestation (Thurston Co.)
