Title: Dark Geese on the Skagit Salt
Post by: AKBowman on November 14, 2009, 05:24:16 PM
I've been out 4 times this year and have had a great time shooting ducks. Interesting hunting out on the salt I like it quite a bit. I havent seen a single dark goose out there and was just wondering if that was normal and what time of year they might show, if at all.

Best of luck to all!

They're out there.  Shot a few on the salt.  You must be hunting a location where they're not.

I hunted Skagit Bay for over 20 years and for some reason, Canada geese were the very occasional large flock fly over. Even less frequent were the Canada geese that flew in range. Frequently, I would run into the ignorant hunter who shot at or even harvested brant calling them "Lesser Canadians". Sadly, these incidents generally happened on out of season brant and of course no brant card on the violators.

In short, don't count on Skagit Bay for legal dark geese.
