Yep I've got this down now. Went out calling for the evening hunt. First set...nada. Second set...had coyotes howling back at me but never saw if they came in or not. Last set of the day...two miles from the gate, had the e-caller running full blast. Wind in my face feeling good about the setup. Laying in the brush next to the trail and not moving a muscle. Then coming from behind me, I see movement right next to me...I mean RIGHT next to me. I, of course, jump out of my skin and see the biggest dog I have ever called in. He is not alone. The female with him sees me and cowers but doesn't know what I am...right behind her...two of this years pups. The big male sees me and comes right at me...looks at me eye to eye and...wags his tail.
A little family of dogs. Very excited to see me, after I take off my mask. The pups come over and jump all over me. I give them all a good pet and scratch. Collect up my gear and begin the walk out. The little dog family doing circles around me. I tell the to fetch up some grouse but they didnt understand or didnt think I was worthy of their time. At the next intersection they took the road going away from the gate. They looked back to see if I was following them but I wanted to get out before it got dark. They obviously knew where they wanted to go because they didnt want to go with me. I waved goodbye and continued on to the gate.
I dont now why it looks dark in this picture. It was about 4:30 and still light out when I took it.

Great story. I sure hope the pups make the winter. Any housed out there or?

Yeah not far from houses. They really did seem to know where they were going and looked healthy enough. The Saint Bernard had a collar but no tags. :dunno: Hope they are OK. They sure did like that cottontail distress though, they came charging in. :chuckle: :chuckle: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
