Here's my bull from this year. Came out of unit 506. I knew the area he lived in. He stayed with a little group of cows. I had been working this particular area steady for 6 days before he made a mistake. He showed himself on the bottom of a nasty clearing after his cows came out just before dark. It took me about 20 minutes to work my way too him after he was down for good. I had caught a look at him right at the end of shooting hours a couple days earlier. He bedded behind a log that afternoon before I could ID his antler points in the timber darkness. The only shot at that time was a the rear part of his back and gut. Not a shot I'll take. Anyways this time he came out a little earlier and gave me a walking side shot more in the open. 1st shot hit behind the shoulder and blew the bottom off of his heart. He dropped like a 2 foot putt with his head down. Range was 284 yds through the finder. As I was getting on the radio to call my partners in to help pack out the meat he got up and took off running. I was confident of my shot, but, didn't want him getting into worse country so I busted his front shoulders. That ended the matter. No more movement. I recovered my slug under the hide on the off side shoulder. That bullet pretty much retained all of it's mass. Anyways, as you can see in the picture by the time I got to him it was nearly dark, so we had a night pack out. That's my story...
