Terry & Parry came over for a 4 day picture taking trip to the refuge. Saw a lot of great bucks, we even got some good pictures of the black doe and her twins this year. The rut is really starting to heat up now, one spot we saw 10 to 13 bucks with some really good bucks chasing does. This year I have seen more bucks with busted antlers than I have in the past. Every day there seems to be a few more different bucks showing up.

That black doe is awesome. Great looking bucks as well
-
Great stuff again Jeff. Wish I could have seen that black doe.

Shawn, the black doe showed up about 3 days ago with her 2 fawns, one black & one regular colore. I think the black one is a little doe, not sure about the other one. I was wondering if you hooked up with Tony for your trip. A lot of the bucks are really getting busted up down here, some of the bigger ones have got their back forks busted completely off. Still trying to figure LR out. If you get time, could you send me a few links to the tutorials you told me about? Thanks. Jeff

The normally colored fawn is a buck, he was already showing pedicle growth back in August.

Fantastic pics, I have never seen deer with that coloring. Thanks Mark
-
Awesome pictures thanks for sharing them..
And FYI, for some
Melanistic whitetails are very rare, even more rare than piebald or albino deer. You can recognize a melanistic deer because their bodies produce far too much of the pigment known as melanin which makes them much darker than your average whitetail. Of the millions of deer taken each year only a few with melanism have been reported. Most people don't know they exist due to the extreme rarity, making a melonistic buck a true trophy.
