hello fellow wa. bowhunters! :hello: i was just curious how often ya'll replace your bowstrings. i tried doing a search on here but found nothing. ive had my bow since spring of 05' and last year was my first year actually hunting with it although i shoot it quite a bit year round. im going to have it replaced cause its starting to fray in one spot near the lower cam, but i was just curious how often yall do it.

I shoot a lot so at least once per year. I usually wear out before my strings do though.

I have had my LX for five years this summer, and have never replaced a string. It still pulls the same poundage and shoots perfectly. I never count my shots in a year, but shoot several times a month starting in March. In July I start shooting several times a week until November. I shoot around 30-50 shots each time out. I am going to replace it this year only because I want a spare string and don't want any problems.

When I crank it I am shooting 1500-2500 shots per week. My serving and shoulder wear out before my string. In the Winter I shoot 20-30 shots per day in the house.

cool-ya im shooting a reflex gamegetter-the price was right for a broke college kid like me lol! the pull is still the same and i am still shooting very nice groups-just like when i first got it. its just starting to fray a little near the lower cam and im a little concerned. im not sure if i knicked it on something sharp while hunting or what the deal is. perhaps its due to lack of waxing the string on my part-i dunno.
all i know is that i am forever hooked on bowhunting!!!

I shoot a firestorm X PSE daily and it just depends on how much brush you push when your hunting.If your just yard shooting it will last a long while but when your in the brush it tends to frey more.At least thats what i have discovered,I change mine once a year,usually after the season is over.

If you shoot alot, it's recommended that you change it once a year? I change mine every other and use Winners Choice. Good Luck

I replace mine about once a year, I also reserve my center serving every 6 months. I do shoot several thousand shots a year, I try to shoot everday.
Most people replace their string prematurely, the 1st thing to show wear is the serving, you can get your string re-served for about $10.00. If you have a nick on the string it's self I would definitely replace it.
When you replace it I would recommend that you purchase a quality string. Winners Choice strings are great but very expensive. Now days you have a few good optioins. Any string made out of 452 or 8125 that are pretensioned will serve you well.

Nice bull BF! yea i hunt some very thick junk. lol i managed to sneak into a small band of cows and i went through a patch of devils club and just plain nasty/thick vegetation-i was within 40 yrds of one cow-caught a flash of an elk head walking parrallel to me-but it was soo thick i couldnt see the body.
ya lol im going to take it in to an archery shop to have the string replaced-i have heard horror stories before...ill have to check the winners choice and the vapor trail strings.

My Switchback XT turns two this year. I shot it a ton before turkey season and all throughout the summer. I was thinking of a new string this year too, its looking a little rough. It gets waxed regularly too. I think string wear may have to do with a bow design. My old hoyt, I never changed the string. My Mathews is parallel limbed, so I think it may be harder on the string. I dont know for sure. I will go with winners choice though when I do change.

Im thinking mine may be a bow design issue too...i noticed some bowstring fragments on one part of the lower cam-im going to get it to an archery shop asap

I packed every thing out because this pretty little thing is being mounted and because it was so hot we just got busy and started the 6 mile treck back to the truck,and for string I only use winters choice never had a problem with them.I shoot every day at least 15 arrows just to stay tuned.heres a nice pic of my little bull (better pic)

Understand I was only talking about packing the skull bone out...just cape the skull out also....only takes a few minutes and saves you 20lbs of weight. Especially six miles you are a glutten for punishment. I would be de-boning for sure with that kind of distance.

I like to skin, leaving the bone in, but 6 miles may change my mind.
