Title: Inherited a long bow. Made by a guy named "Fred Sevier". Does anybody know anyth
Post by: Kent Hunter on November 27, 2009, 10:50:54 PM
I inherited a long bow from my brother-in-law. My nephew brought it over to me yesterday. It was made by a gentelman named Fred Sevier. His native name is "Tukaluk". He is an Alaska native. Was wondering whether anyone on here had any information. I am not a bow hunter and know nothing about bows. Long bows or compound for that matter. This bow looks really nice. I will try and get some pictures up in the next few days. Thanks for any help.

Only guy I met who was native and made bows was an older fellow than me which I met at an archery education class about a year and a half ago. He had this really sweet looking self bow which he made and it was backed with snake skin. Possibly one of the prettiest bows I have ever seen. Also had a couple more bows. I remember he used carved out designs from bones as arrow rests. He had some unique work. I am not sure if his name was Fred as it escapes my memory but could be the same guy for all I know. He was a very friendly guy and produced nice bows at any rate. I never did shoot one even though he offered I felt scared I would scratch one. The world is small so it could be him..

Seattle Times did a story about him.  59 years old. Lives in Mountlake Terrace.

Thanks for the help and replys guy's. I can always depend on my HuntWA bro's. You guy's are great. Yep, that is the guy. My brother-in-law had told me when he was alive that the guy that made and gave him the bow was a guy that he had gone to high school with. My brother-in-law went to Chief Sealth also. I'm adding a couple of pictures of the bow. I have never shot a bow, but with my brother-in-law thinking enough of me to leave me this after he has passed I think that I owe him the honor of learning how to shoot. He passed away last Sunday and I miss the heck out of him SO much. We were really close.
