Title: Help with what bow is legal?
Post by: MeatDown on November 30, 2009, 03:04:02 PM
Ok… so I switched to a smokepole several years back so haven’t looked at the archery regs for WA, until today. A friend is looking at buying her son a bow for Christmas, now I don’t see a let-off requirement anymore? Am I missing it?

If they changed it to the (a) subsection that reads… It is unlawful for any person to hunt big game animals with a  bow that possesses less than 40 pounds of pull measured at twenty-eight inches or less draw length. … How do I help this lady pick a bow for her son?

Please let me know she was looking at these two since she isn’t sure he will stick with it…

So… please let me know as soon as possible…

The let off restriction is no longer in effect.  As far as which bow, I would let him try some out to get one that fits.  maybe do a card that says she will get him a bow, instead of buying one and risking it not feeling right.   :twocents:

What you read is correct: 40 pounds minimum.  There is no letoff requirement.

i think the idea of getting one from a pro shop better to make sure he gits a good fitting bow he can shoot right.  no letoff requirments but must be at least 40lbs at his draw lenght to be legal to hunt with here in wa.

Do not get the Cabellas bow she is looking at. That is a returned to store bargain cave special. It may be just fine with verry minor problem and a great deal or a destroyed peice of junk.  Have her go to a pro shop and get set up correctly.
