I was just pulling into my spot this morning when a coyote goes running across the road a couple hundred yards up. I pull over and grab my stuff thinking this would be a great way to start the day. Anyways I see him on the edge of the CRP and he disappears. I thought I lost him but I walked to where I could see up the draw he went into a little better and there he was. I thought he looked really good and thick, especially the tail. Anyways I got ready, dialed the scope in and there was a Fox, it wasn't a coyote at all! I couldn't believe what I was looking at! I took the shot, it was a ways out there but I really wanted to get a good hit. I heard the THUD so I knew I had a good hit and he dropped. I walked up to him and was in disbelief. I've never seen a Fox in WA. I used to see them in North Carolina and Massachussetts when I was in the service but never here. Just a beautiful little creature. Just wanted to brag.
Oh! It was a 177 yards. Made a perfect hit. :IBCOOL:

Thats cool. The fox I've seen on the west side seem to not be as red or have a little more black on them. Are you gonna have the hide tanned? Nice shooting too.
-
whatpart of washington was this? i've never seen any foxes in washington either.

Whitman county.

I'm gonna tan it at the least. I may mount it. I'm 42 and hunted my whole life, never even seen one around here so I may mount it since I'll probably never see another one.. Would like to have a full body. The colors are awesome. The pics don't do it justice.

Nice!!! I took a shot at a fox last year during deer season around Tyler. Probably wouldn't have been much left after a 25-06 round. Little frosty this morning, wasn't it?
-
good looking fox and special varmit ar-15 i have the same one but diffrent scope. just got another yesterday but its not got all the bells like the special varmit bushy has but still a nice gun.

I havent been shooting well with the AR platform. This was the last year of fooling with them for hunting but I'm doing well with it so far this year so I'll keep using it. The crazy thing is, is that it's super accurate but I just couldn't hit a damn coyote with it. I took the 4.5X14 off and threw a 3X9 back on. I'm shooting much better now. :chuckle:

Thats pa pretty one for red in this state. Its about the color of the one I got. NICE WORK. I'd certainly have it mounted at least as a rug and head.
-
they're cool little critters. i killed 1 in NY with a 30-06. they are vermin pheasant killers there and are plentiful. unfortunately there's not much left of one when you hit them with a frontal shot from a naught-6.
a taxi put mine back together and had the mount in his studio for a long time.

Nice fox. I use to spend my winters in kodiak chasing fox. I sure miss hunting them.
-
AWESOME!
only foxes I've seen were at the refineries in Ferndale and at the airport in Ireland.
Congrats man!

Very nice! Congrats. Very few around the eastern part of the state. :)

Congrats, what an awesome little trophy!
My first year in the Air Force they were going for $90 to $100 a pelt. I took 32 trapping and calling. I bought my first truck because of red and grey fox hides. Careful when you pull the tail out, they are not super thin skinned but don't man handle it either. They are EASY to call, probably the easiest animal of all to call in with a cottontail distress call. They come right in and are VERY jittery.

So cool- you call Rory over that one, He is going to go nuts :chuckle:

Beautiful, I would have that mounted for sure. I saw a silver phase years ago in the Siouxon and I called in a possible last year down in Battleground. I never got a great look at it but its tail was as long as its body and didnt look like a coyote.
-
congrats gutpile. Now dont screw around with a rug! do a full mount and do it right :IBCOOL:

Yep! I agree! I've got the pose all figured out. Gotta see the legs and the tail. I wish these were more common.
-
Nice work!! I'd really like to get one somday. Missed one a few years ago over in Montana, 350 yards running. My outfitter up in B.C. had a couple cross foxes hanging around his place that I tried to talk him into letting me shoot, no dice. Congrats again.
-
Congrats on a fine trophy, I have only seen one, on the Nooch years ago. Mark
