This pic is 2 days of hunting, me and my buddy set up on some of our favorite public land for freeze out conditions Saturday morning, it was slow we finished 7 birds and killed 5 of em. We drove around after the hunt and scouted, nothing in any of our spots.....we were slightly discouraged but had originally predicted to see the push show up Sunday or Monday at the latest if the push was gonna come at all.......so we braved the cold Sunday Morning and headed out to the same area as Saturday, we opted to start a little after shooting time figuring that it was gonna be the coldest right at shooting time......it was -4 at the house when we left with the 30mph windchill.......driving down to the hunting area my heart started to pound harder and harder as each spot we had checked out the day before that was empty was black with birds....the sky was covered with high flying birds in formation, riding the strong NW wind from who knows where.....it was really amazing how overnight the hunting went from a empty sky to one black with verde patos! We bundled up like siberian border gaurds and headed out and luckily soon killed our birds....might of tryed for all green but it was so cold we wanted to kill em and get out.....did'nt see any other hunters but it was worth it to get out there and see the 1st good push of birds that we have experienced come into the valley this season...I think the "lull" is over, although we never really had that much of a lull.
After we got back to my truck we hung around awhile and witnessed a flock of about 1000 birds in a cornfeild grow and grow as ducks coming in on the wind dropped right in from what seemed a mile high to meet the black spiraling mass below them above a sea of golden corn...when we left at dark there was probably 5 to 6000 birds in the feild and they were still coming....might have to skip US History 202 tommorow!:yes

Yah we were on some public land up past Roza dam....I think the parking lot is called Big Pines or something like that.......there's like no pressure up there, you just gotta watch out so you don't pepper a bighorn sheep in the background when dem greenheaded patos drop in from out of the pines 8)
