What type of hunting do you guys do when the temp is 0 and ground is frozen solid? I've been sitting in my blind for the past 10 days with a few walks in between to warm up. Saw does two days, 8 one, 4 the other. The deadline is coming up and I keep thinking I'm not doing enough(hoofing it).
Walk or sit?......

Sit

Yeah, hunting sucks right now... :'(
Went out twice last week at the start of this (prior to everything being frozen). Saw deer both times just no bucks. Went out this morning, didn't last very long due to the noise. I have some great areas, but ended up just coming home instead of spooking everything in the area. I'll have to wait for it to warm up, rain, snow (hopefully) or something other that this. Sitting would be one of your only good options at the moment, it's just way too noisy, unless you try a push with a partner or something...Be patient, the weathers going to turn for the better and hunting will be great, as the deer have been hanging low.

Still-hunt bedding areas.
Deer will sit tight. Use binos and scan everything. Snails pace, don't worry about noise so much as long as your footfalls are NOT repetitive:
Step, glass....wait......step, step, glass.....wait....glass.....wait....step, etc.
Keep the blood moving, keeps your sense high, keeps it interesting. Killing time in a blind in cold weather SUCKS :chuckle:

Unfortunately we won't get a chance for things to warm up over on the dry side. Season ends the 15th and I have to go back to work this sunday which of course it's suppose to snow. Maybe next year :dunno: That's the 3rd time I've said that since I started bowhunting :'(

With this frozen ground right now the deer would have to be deaf and half dead just to get within bow range..I was out last Monday, got into about 8" of snow, and sounded like I was walking on corn flakes. I moved down into the lowlands, and had 12 elk walk by me, and saw 3 deer. Too much brush for a good shot on the deer. I could have spined one doe, but the window was a little small to shoot through.

I would say sit it out. The colder it gets, the more they move for food.

supposed to get snow tonight, the last day of the season is tomorrow. Still debating on using a sick day, only a few hours left to decide. Thinking I can probably use that extra day off for next season but it's hard to throw in the towel.
