Slayer
-
i heard a rough 181 and some change with tons of character i did get a cell phone pic but its not my story to tell or pic to show.
-
I herd it was a dink...
-
What is the Governors tag? How do ya get it? Whats the details?
-
SpecialT...its pretty easy...just need a like what 30,000$?
Im not sure what the deer tag brings...but the elk tags are CRAZZZY
but I believe its like an all access pass to all areas and all seasons..i may be wrong
when ya hear GOV tag...think...jesus christ huge animal at the cost of a starter home ;)
-
-Get the pic up, I gotta see this guy
-
I herd it was a dink...
Yeah? but it will still be bigger than anything you usually get! :chuckle:
-
Its a 180 buck. Some trash, not bad, but surely could do better. Not my tag though.

That's a pretty good decription Longtatlaw. I think they were going for a little cheaper this year due to the recession, since they are bid on. Still, about the cost of a new pickup...
-
That's nuts. You could kill a 180 buck in every State in the West for that money. I 'd put a chunk down on my own parcel for that kind of cash, at least you'd have in investment, to each their own, at least the money goes back into the Dept., that is a plus.
-
I agree Dman. There were alot of special permit bucks just from members on this site that I thought were more impressive. ITs okay though, its his money and his tag. It is a cool buck. I don't know the guy at all or anything. Just talking caliber of deer.
-
Looks like a very nice buck to me, given the opportunity I would have pulled the trigger too. Congrats to the hunter!
-
Its a dink for the money involved..or so Ive been told.
-
-Get the pic up, I gotta see this guy
not my pic to post maybe someone knows the guy and can get permission or the hunter himself will post it! it was a good buck! as far as it being worthy of the gov tag :dunno: that's all in the tag holders eyes! i guess it was or he wouldn't have shot it. for some reason i don't think i will ever have that dilemma :chuckle:

actually this year the gov mule deer tag went for $7,500
http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/permits/raffles/raffles_auctions.pdf
that link has all of the auction tag prices as well as the amount of revenue from raffle tags
-
Thats cheaper than the whitetail tag. :chuckle:
-
i believe it's actually $500 more than the whitetail tag went for.
-
That's cheap. I think I'm going to buy both the whitetail and mule deer governor tags next year.
-
WOW!
-
So's whos going to the thing in Bellevue this year? Im thinking about it.
-
All the deer are on the eastside, so why are all the tags on the westside...oh yeah, thats where the money is...LOL
-
Its where the tards live.. .
Im interested in seeing what the prices are like this year.. I bet they are even lower than last year.
I need a number so I know how many units of plasma to sell next year :P
-
I don't know what you guys are talking about looks like a good one to me I wouldnt have any problem spanking it
-
All the deer are on the eastside, so why are all the tags on the westside...oh yeah, thats where the money is...LOL

-
8k for a frigging blacktail tag. You could go to AK and shoot five trophy Sitka's for that. :yike:
-
Let me guess Mray, you and Rob were helping him. :chuckle:
-
Let me guess Mray, you and Rob were helping him.
Whats that supposed to mean? Because a couple guys think its a nice buck and are not bashing the guy, that means we are helping him out? Really? :dunno:
-
I think the price per inch of anler is like 45 bucks... :o
-
The buck is a 190 non-typical shot yesterday morning. That's all the info that I was told.
-
I need a number so I know how many units of plasma to sell next year :P
:yeah: :chuckle:
-
man you guys are right. 180 190 what i a dink. i wouldnt shoot anything under 1000 or 2000 those 180's phhfff
-
Seems like a ton of people have already seen the pic, hope someone will post it here, would love to see it.
-
Wow! What do you know. Looks like the same people are bashing this gov buck like they did last years.
-

I don't have permission but someone will eventually it's just a matter of time! ;)
-
What is wrong with 190inch non-typical :dunno:
-
190, thats it :chuckle: Did Jarred guid him on that buck?
-
Jarrod Gibbons?
-
No he wasn't part of the hunt
-
Sure would be nice to see this buck :dunno:
-
Sure would be nice to see this buck :dunno:
it'll happen, always does :chuckle:
i always got the impression that you could get a 200in muley with that tag :dunno:, me im so used to seeing blackies id shoot the first 4 point i saw :chuckle:
-
190? nope.
-
If I shot the gov buck this post would sure make me want to post the pictures on here. :bdid:
-

Why not? I've never seen a nice buck, or even a mediocre buck not get a nice round of applause here. Some people need to get out of touch with their more feminine side, jesus there are some sensitive people around here lately. I think all that was said really is that it is a hell of a lot of money to pay for that quality of animal, contrary to some opinions, you can't "bash" anything unless it's been posted and it hasn't even been posted yet. We get all worked up into a lather over a mystery buck :bash:. Show me the picture please so I can applaud it, thank you.

Not sure where 30K came from? The deer tags sells for less than half that. I think the more money the better. It all goes to research of that species.
-
The money goes to research for that species?????? I'd like to see prof of that.
-
money for lots o things are SUPPOSED to go places... Lotto... schools... Special license plates... designated funds... Once they sell you the why, they pull the old switch a roo once it makes money
-
Apparently I'm the minority who doesn't have a problem with Gov. tags. . . :dunno:
So long as the money goes somewhere and benefits something one animal is well worth the thousands of dollars it brings in in my opinion. . .
Also, if someone has the cash laying around to buy in on something like this the money certainly can't be that big of a chunk out of his or her pocket. For 7k or whatever this one went for (basically the price of a nice guided hunt), he got to hunt the whole east side for a super long season. That alone would be worth more than going on a 7k 5 day hunt and shooting a nice buck in my opinion. . .
Bottom line, it wasn't that expensive, at least not to him, and he shot a buck he was happy to take. More power to him.
-
i heard he passed up on some good help from some people who knew where some dandy bucks were
-
Not bashing the deer at all Wabone, but thanks for trying to start something. It sounds like he had a nice hunt and he didn't shoot it in somebodies yard though. I am reflecting on the quality of deer in Wa at the moment. If you had that tag in your pocket, and you probably have more experience with hunters with that tag than anyone, and you had complete access to the deer in this entire state, would a 180 light your fire? Have you noted the Governor tag bucks from Idaho, Colorado and Montana to name a few. They are UNREAL! This is just a dang nice buck. There's a difference. Much of it is a reflection on our deer, not the hunter.
and no Rob, didn't mean anything by it, that's why the smiley face, I knew you and maybe Mray were helping with our one member on here and thought you might be involved with this one as well, and thought that yours and Mrays opinion were about the same. That was my connotation.
-
The governors tag gives you the opportunity to hunt and since trophy is in the eye of the beholder. That means the hunter will define the tag every time. I also know I will never shoot the biggest buck in the state but I will have the best hunt. That is me however. If someone wants to pay around "$7,500.00" just to hunt during the rut and shoot a 160" buck so be it. Its his hunt, his money, thanks for the donation. Maybe the guy that shot it has a 200" typical and wanted a non-typical? Every hunter is different I am sure. I know I don't need a guide and I work hard and scout every year and get what I get. The most important part is it satisfied me. :twocents: Congrats to the hunter.
-
A-men Yelp, that is exactly right. I don't mean to convey any different message.
-
the guy didn't spend $30k.
-
the guy didn't spend $30k.
I know I will modify.
Eastside deer tag went for $7500 not $30,000
-
Auction amounts..
http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/permits/raffles/raffles_auctions.pdf
-
Somebody got a good deal on a moose tag in 1999... only $4500. Would cost more than that to go to Canada. And the $7500 for the mule deer this year was a bargain, in comparison to other years. Pretty fair price really, for being able to hunt anywhere in the state for a mule deer, at times when nobody else is hunting. Would be a fun hunt for sure. If I ever win the lottery I'll do it...
-
i wish i could afford the sheep tag..
-
you could pay $5k to go somewhere and hunt mule deer for a week or you could pay $7k to hunt mule deer for 4 months. when you're dropping the big bucks to go hunting, whats another $2k for an additional 3.75 months of hunting.
honestly to me when folks are willing to spend a fairly large amount of money to go hunting places, a governors tag at $7k is a bargain.
i don't have that kind of money but some people do. i know people that shoot $20k shotguns and spend $5-7k to go fishing and release everything they catch.
the guys that spend that kind of money that goes to our wildlife should be thanked for their donation to our state's wildlife.
-
If they let there fish go what do they eat for dinner?
-
good grub...
-
I like good food but my wife says im fat.. so Im not alloud.
I saw some cheep wing shoots in argentina last week.
-
I hear there are smoking hot senoritas in argentia too :chuckle:
-
So, five pages of posts and still no pic for us lowly soles not in the know? :dunno:
-
To try to compare Washington with the premier muley states is crazy. Occasionally washington will produce a true bruiser muley but all in all confirmed, scored, kills on bucks over 190 are rare. Guys all say they see them but most shrink if they actually are harvested. Colorado has 2nd choice units that have more 180 bucks killed in them every year than Washingtons best units. Genetics dont lie. Look at the all time record book for bucks over 200 inches and compare Washington with these other states. It has neither the habitat nor the genetics to compete but that does not mean we cant have good hunting for good bucks. We have too many people and to few tags. I think the guy killed a decent buck for that tag based on a sketchy cell phone photo. It is not like the gov and raffle tag holders the last few years have been killing 240 inch bucks. Some have been real nice but real nice for Washington not Colorado or Utah.
-
The tag that went for 7.5k is a deal this year, from what I saw it looked like the tag last year went for 15k+, that is getting to be a lot of money. Since I would be happy with a 160-170 buck, that is a lot of money for me as I'd still have a good shot at one that size with a bonus rut tag, or in Montana.
-
True story Romulus, but when you know there is potential here such as what the gal got in the Wack, or that gentleman got on the firing center this year. I saw two bucks in the back of a tribal hunters rig in Republic that would put this buck to shame. Those big bucks do exist. We have more issues such as tribal hunting than Colorado has, more people after a dwindling resource etc. There certainly could be some management changes, but then again, only a few would be able to reap the rewards of that.
-
Hopefully people don't think of a "governor's tag" as if they are just purchasing a B & C buck, but just as an opportunity to hunt a 4 month long season and take a decent, representative animal for what is available in this state. It's really sad when a guy cares nothing about the hunt except what his buck scores.
-

How many Washington Governor tag bucks did not score well? I don't consider myself a big mule deer trophy hunter in any regard, but I have to disagree somewhat. Regardless of what peoples hunting goals are, for that type of tag the majority of hunters will have the perception it is a true trophy hunt :twocents:.

I dont agree bobcat, If you buy the gov tag, you are buying a B&C buck. If you want hunt for four months apply for the multi season tag. Its about 7350.00 cheaper. Plus the guy who buys the gov tag most likley has a few other hunts he has purchased for the season so I bet hes not going to be hunting for his gov buck for four months. Its more likely the raffle tag and the incentive tag guys will be hunting the four month time frame. the new guy as proof, thats notr always true either. In the end I would consider 7500.00 a "bargin" :chuckle: for the tag. If you book a guided 7 day hunt in one of Wyoming or Colorado's trophey units it will cost you 3500.00/4500.00 plus the tag 400.00 + or -. Travel to and from another 400.00 + or -. and a guide tip 200.00/300.00. On the high end of my estimate that is 5400.00 :yike: for a 7 day hunt in one unit. for another 2000.00 you can get a goveners tag where you should be able to shoot a 190"+ buck with a little time invested. Of course there will be additional costs for travel etc. associated with the gov tag but if you step back and think about its a pretty "good" deal considering previous years tag prices and other states gov tag prices Have I over thought this or what? :chuckle:
-
I'm not saying it's not a trophy hunt, just that to me it shouldn't be all about the score. If the guy kills a buck he's happy with that's all that should matter. And yes, for $7500 it's a great deal. If I had the money I would buy that tag for sure. Like others have said, if you really want a good buck you should go to another state, like Colorado.
-

Yes, other states are better than ours for trophy mule deer.
-
He paid more than $7500 for the tag. The state site is wrong. $7500 is what was paid for the whitetail tag and for some reason it is listed in the eastside category rather than the whitetail category. It went a little cheaper than years past but it was over 10K.
-
jeeze guys alot of talk but guess what this guy nutted up and got the tag and took a buck he was happy with! hell if i had the tag i would prolly just do my part and take a doe!! :chuckle:
-
Alot of talk in this thread!!!
-
If it's the same guy I heard he has the Gov elk tag too.
-
Alot of talk in this thread!!!
And backtracking! :chuckle:
I don't get it ... What does it matter? I've seen a few larger bucks on here this year, a ton of smaller bucks for sure and now there is something wrong with a 180 class buck just because he paid for the tag? ... but you'll be a hero if you want the same buck with the raffle tag and end up with tag soup??? :dunno:
My only hope is that the tag holder will still want to post it now that all you experts have torn his buck to shreds!!!
-

What did I miss, did Gregoire shoot a big buck??? :dunno:
-
Agree with M_Ray 100%, to many yayhoos on here! its not your money he bought the tag with so just keep your mouths shut.
-

Me too...great buck. I'd be stoked to take that buck in WA.
-
Not sure where everyone tore his buck to shreds. Kinda hard to do for most folks since they haven't seen it, and those that have for the most part saw it through a cell phone pic. There is such thing as discussion though and the last time I checked that was still ok. Some of us may have some testosterone on board, but that is better than wearing a skirt and drinking apple martinis. Its obvious we'd all love that hunt, but only one can do it, or maybe two or three with raffle tags and incentive tags included...ok maybe a 1000 or so can do it annually if you include tribal harvest. :) anyways, the point is, we are all envious and would love the shot at some of the monsters that DO exist out there, and we all live vicariously through these few folks.
-
id shoot a spike with that gov tag just to piss everybody off :chuckle:
-
Hey Bone, those bucks you saw in the Colville's rig was one of them 34-36" wide? I heard of 3 bucks taken (2 off the rez and one off of Camel Back) that were in the 32-36" area. My buddy saw the 32-34" that was shot off of Camel Back but only heard about the other two.
-
"Some of us may have some testosterone on board, but that is better than wearing a skirt and drinking apple martinis."
OMG that's the phrase of the month..... :chuckle:
-
Yeah Polar, there were two of them in the back of a red pickup. They didn't fit....... Typical crest bucks, tons of mass, huge spread, but points didn't really add up or even. Extremely wide and square. I seriously was ill. I didn't get to talk to the guy. Rumors are he got both of them. The thing that was amazing was also the size of the deer. Its cool to see that size class(body and bone) of mature animal....not cool necessarily in the back of a tribal rig.
The amazing thing about the spread was the deer was so tall, it didn't look that wide. A 34 inch toyo spare could fit inside it though. :yike:
-
I heard they were shot between Seventeen and Little Seventeen (on the rez)and that it was the same group who got the 40+" a few years back. At least the Camel Back buck was taken by regular guys . They were camped in our old spot up by Nine Mile Falls and Refrigerator canyon area. My buddy b.s.ed with them for a while. Good to see some great mulies still in the area, not good to see them "poached".
-
Refrigerator got it's name for good reason. I remember freezing my butt off a few times there. Good to hear there are still bruiser's up there, hopefully I'll get back some day.
-
Yep, thats where they came from, at least what I heard. Another tribal member showed me a pic later of them and that tire fit completely INSIDE his rack. THAT WAS unreal.
-
We use to ride horses onto the rez from Bear Pot and out to and past Seventeen and Lil 17. There used to be some absolute monsters out there, whities and mule bucks. We stood on the helicopter pad on Seventeen and watched 4 mule bucks that were in the high 180s or better and couldn't do a thing about it. The Colvilles want to expand their hunting area but they have the best land in the state to hunt on now. :dunno:
-
What is wrong with Apple Martini's? Now you are throwing my drinks under the bus with my skirts?
-
As stimulating as it was reading these 7 pages of posts, I mean no offense by this.... where the F*** is the picture? Just bein a :sas: but I really do want to see this thing.

I can second that, one of the nicest typical 4x4 mulies I've seen over there was bedded right along a main Rez road :bash:.
-
Hopefully he moved or he wouldn't last long.
-
:chuckle:
After I stopped to gawk at it, I think I scared it up far enough away from the roads (3-400yds) it was probably safe. ;)
-
I guess the feeling I got from alot of people including your self Bone was that this buck wasn't worthy of a Gov. tag because it is 180??? 180 is a big buck that every one of the people on this post would be tripping each other up to get a shot at! The general feeling I am getting was that because it was the Gov. tag it somehow has a score to live up to??? :dunno: Now if I'm wrong please correct me :dunno: I'm not trying to make trouble I just know it's a great buck.
I wish I could post it for you guys but I have respect for the hunter and the person who sent it to me and I will not do that ... At this point the we'll just have to see how the tag holder takes it when he reads this and he'll be the deciding factor as to weather or not the rest of you see it!
-
Here is the pic

:iamwithstupid: Exactly!
And by the way, if the picture that was just posted really is the Gov. buck, holy crap, that's a monster that I would take in a quarter of a milisecond with a Gov. tag!
-
I think maybe I under guessed him. :chuckle:
His buck is a great buck. Its hard to express the point I was trying to get to. It was more reflective of the state our herd is in that a 180 buck is what a hardcore guy can come up with, with unlimited pressure, time etc on the winter range. I'm sorry I can't express that in a logical manner. As stated many times on here the trophy is in the eye of the beholder. If he pulled on it, he is obviosly happy with it.
-
Nice buck! Congrats to him.
MS
-
I can say one thing for pretty darn sure, if thats the buck, he's not a 180" buck, that buck has got to be close to 200". Whatever buck that is, he's damn nice.
-
200 is right, as in 200K Utah buck. :chuckle:
-
200 is right, as in 200K Utah buck. :chuckle:
Gotcha....or got me, whichever the case may be.

There may have been a little "mistake" in the photo I posted :lol4:
It shouldn't matter what buck I posted right guys?
-
You got too many feelings M_ray...they're bound to get hurt. :chuckle:
Miles I'm not hurt! how bout for once you don't ruin a post with your off topic attempts to start a pissin match? Isnt this why you have been banned before? everyone else can seem to stick to the topic and understand what was said. My 8 year old catches on faster than you do

Bone I can accept that that's why I asked (Not in an accusatory manner BTW Miles) :) It seemed early on in this post that it had to live up to a standard and I just wanted the Trophy itself to be honored and not scoffed cause it should be bigger ... Thanks for the clarification hopefully some of the others will see where I was coming from.
-
i was beggining to wonder how far off on score i really was...i never claimed to be an expert.

I expected you to resort to the insults once again Miles can you focus on the Topic?

What buck is that?? i want the story on that guy!! its definitely not the Wa Gov Tag buck...

Probably because those bucks from other states have already been posted on the web somewhere. The Washington buck hasn't. (at least not that I know of)
-
Utah 2000 GOV tag.
-
I think I got Idaho in an email. I'll see if I got permission.....
-
Anybody noticing a velvet trend here....... ;)
-
How much does idaho's go for?
-
I think it was the supertag holder. I'm not sure if they have a gov tag actually.
-
I think I got Idaho in an email. I'll see if I got permission.....
ha ha ha ha :chuckle: at least bones panties arnt in a bunch!! Hope you didnt hurt anyones feelings :'(
-
I think thats right :dunno:
-
Yes, it looks like some guys like to hunt in the summer. Probably figure they better get their buck before it gets killed in the general season.
-
Its really easy to find them in the summer in some of these places. game cams on water is the game.
-
Im guessing we will never get to see this deer. :dunno:
-
I would LOVE to see a WA gov tag buck in velvet... to my knowledge there hasn't been one in the last decade or so (I'm not that old so I'm not sure)?
Michael

Where the pics....???? :bash: :bash: :bash:

Whose buck is that then?
-
:dunno: But it's not the 09 Wa Gov buck.

Some of you guys need to go back a page or two. One is Utahs, one is last years I think.
-
:chuckle:
-
OK, so we still don't have a picture of Washington's 09 Gov tag buck?
-
Add a little mass and shorten the forks from last years and you have this years. They are fairly similiar. I think last years has more junk.

this buck is the colorado governors tag buck 2009.
-
I used my whole lunch break at work to read this thread, very entertaining. Lighten up on the Gov guys, they provide lots of $$ for wildlife, at least until Gregoire steels it.
-
What year is this one from?

2008
Same buck different pic

CONGRATS!!!!! I would've shot that pig with any tag in any state!!!!!
nobody posting in this thread has shot any of the bucks pictured in this thread.
the '08 gov buck looks a lot more huge on the hoof than it does in any of these pics too. i think he grossed a little over 200" if i remember correctly.

I think someone predicted that the thread would reach 20 pages before someone posts a picture...
-
I know who the hunter is ... well I know his brother and a couple of his friends, anyway I could be wrong but I do not believe he is a member :dunno: so we'll be waiting until he gives permission or signs up to tell his own story.
-
personally i think it's great that the folks who do have or have seen the pic have enough respect for the guy to not post the pic without him giving the ok nod.
good job gang.

It was a pretty young deer too... saw him the year before he got shot and he was still big but not as big... I think that buck was only 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 when he was shot...

5 1/2 is a young deer?

What year is this one from?
somebody paid big money for that spindly thing?
-
this is the email I got. Looks like a spike.
-
How much does the governor tag usually go for?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$4
-
$12K-$15K. This year I believe is was bought for $13.8K. The rumors of it going for $7.5K are false. I am talking about the Eastern WA Gov Tag, not the new Whitetail Tag.
-
I think the GOV tag is a myth in this State, given everything else she's promised :chuckle:.
-

Wastick.
Is the full length shaft arrow for the carp when you see them? :chuckle:

I heard it went for 16k

Just saw the real gov tag buck pic, so don't know what anyone else saw. 22 point 190+
-
Definately not a 22 pt. and not 190" either. ;)
-
22 point......is that Canada count or what? 190 could be a guess, but 22 points..... :dunno:
-
Well, I understand the guy not wanting to post his buck and open himself up to criticism, particularly if he used a guide, or shot an animal that was less than shocking in size... but I wish he would post it anyway...
-
it really sucks to think he would get criticized for using a guide. thats the reason these gov tag guys don't post anything on sites like this...because folks like to criticize the way they hunt. look at whats happened here in the past...why would any of them post anything for all the b.s. that gets said?
-
A lot of it I think is the "hate the rich" mentality. Some people will criticize anyone with money when they catch them spending it in the public eye, giving no thought to the idea that they have the same chance to become rich in this country as anyone else does.
As a soldier, I certainly am not anywhere near affluent, but I have no problem defending a person's right to become wealthy in our system. Besides... I retire in a couple of years... so, who knows? :dunno: :)

In the past? how bout the criticism just on this post? Don't get me wrong I wish they would but I can see why they wouldn't want to post a story ... would you? :dunno:

BTW I agree with you and thank you for making this a possibility for all of us! :) I know I appreciate it!!!

Spot on right there. I have seen the buck and it is a lot more impressive than the pics, some times the camera jusy does not capture the true size. I posted pics of Toms incentive tag buck, I thought I got good pics that really capture the size of that pig, but looking at them after the fact I missed the boat a bit. Guys that I showed while heading to Charlies will tell you its way more impressive in hand than the pics show, same for the "auction tag" buck. Its a nice buck guys, any of us would be happy with it on our wall. Same as last year, another trophy that the pics just dont do it justice.
They have earned the privaledge to aquire the tag and do what most of us can only aspire to do, dont hate the player...hate the game.
-
I agree with hunt, here we go again with people complainin about what somebody else shot, get a life, seriously, if u don't like it, then don't read it or comment on it, what somebody else chooses to do is none of your concern
-
wouldn't want to post a story ... would you?
Well I guess I would as I post everything from an accidental discharge to blurry pictures, from my wife hating me to getting nothing for Christmas. I share everything. Maybe that means I am an extrovert or that I could give a rip what other people think, or my propensity to share :dunno: I show you guys what I shoot everyyear and half the time show pictures of the preseason scout, skylines etc. I even tell you if its the Entiat, or the Methow or the NE corner. I tell you if its a Yakima ram, a Clemens ram or a Chelan ram. If you are ashamed of what you shot, or how you got it, then I might see it, but that doesn't even stop me.
-
The guy that the killed the buck had a great time. Those who helped had a great time also. I'm sure they're sitting back lurking at all the comments made and still having a great time. ;) I bet if is this post reaches 20 pages, a pic will be posted.
-

why even hate the game?
whats the game? having money to buy gov tags or the gov tags in general.
-
Well I guess I would as I post everything
yeah Doug, agreed, but the big difference that i see is that there aren't a bunch of armchair quarterbacks telling you that you suck or you should have done it this way instead of that way or etc...
-
Its a DINK!
Hope everone had a good xmas :chuckle:

Exactly! That was my thought while reading your post Bone, You don't have a bunch of guy's criticizing your hunt or animal before you have made it public.
-

*censored* people better get to postin!! :chuckle:
-
Where is the darn pic already!!!! Anyone know of another sight that it is on. I want to see this dink!!!
-
If anybody knows of a pic. anywhere online, post a link. I wana see it.
-
yeah Doug, agreed, but the big difference that i see is that there aren't a bunch of armchair quarterbacks telling you that you suck or you should have done it this way instead of that way or etc...
Probably because any one of them could have my tag, and its not as easy to talk smack. :chuckle:
-
Where is the darn pic already!!!! Anyone know of another sight that it is on. I want to see this dink!!!
Could you copy and paste it on here? I mean, its already circulating the internet, so...
-
I bet it is a quality buck. I do not know why I or all of us are being rude. Are we just upset that we couldn't afford to pay for this tag? It is good for us. The money goes back into our wildlife. Let's give it a rest and wait to see a quality buck and I bet a great story!!!
Let's be encouraging instead of tearing this guy down. We are in this together!!
-

:dunno: I do not think so you would have already seen it. It has made it around by cellphone for sure.
It is a respectable deer for any tag and hoping ALL the money this guy payed for it is used for what it was intended for
-

Well, what I mean was that other guy said he'd seen it on another site, so doing that pretty much releases all exclusive privacy the photo may have had before.
Oh well. Hope to see it up here after so much talk about it.

-
The whitetail tag holder is still packing a tag, getting down to crunch time.
-
he better stretch his trigger finger
-
I haven't checked, but the Gov's whitetail tag has got to go for a lot less, doesn't it? No predictable wintering grounds, and most of the best whitetail country has a late/rut hunt anyway...right?
-
It went between 7-8K and just to clarify for everyone, they are not "Gov" tags but rather "Auction" tags, to keep people from getting confused. ;)
-
So the Whitetail auction tag went for 7-8K, and the muley tag went for about 15K, right...?
-
-
YUP
-
7k is alot for a whitetail.....IMO
-
7k is alot for a whitetail.....IMO
Well, if you can easily afford it, and you are in a position to hunt the entire season, you could probably count on putting one in the books... Might be worth it to some...
-
Id go to Kansas or Iowa for that kind of money.
-
Id go to Kansas or Iowa for that kind of money.
Maybe, if you were just going to hunt "blind" and hope for a good buck. But what if you already had eyes on a 190 class whitey, on private ground, that you knew you had a good chance of killing if you just spent the time in the area during the right times of the year? Don't forget, some of these auction tags are bought by people who have already scouted out the animal they want to harvest...
-
you can get the best guided hunt in any eastern state or Saskatchewan or Alberta for 7k.
-
You can get a couple of them for the price of the muley tag, thats not the point. Some people just like getting out and hunting. This tag allows for a 4 month hunt, not just going out and killing a deer.
-
I guess my problem is that I dont like Whities...YES im biased.
-
you can get the best guided hunt in any eastern state or Saskatchewan or Alberta for 7k.
Well, I had a buck on my trailcam this year that would have gone well over 150 gross. He disappeared as soon as the bow season started, but I am pretty sure that no one harvested him. If I had the time, and the money, it might have been worth being able to hang out there during the peak times and see when he showed...
-
I guess my problem is that I dont like Whities...YES im biased.
how can you not like them scronney things
-
Here's the buck.

That's the Governor's buck? Seriously?
It's a fine buck! For a little guy...
:chuckle:
-
Like I said, nothing wrong with that buck and it would look great on my wall. Welcome to the site.
-
I like a buck with good character and mass! Nice buck!
-
Looks like the right buck this time. :chuckle: Glad we got a picture on here finally. 8)
-
Great buck !!!! Thanks for getting him up on here
-
How many points does that buck have on his left side?
-
great buck, congrats on a successful hunt.
-
Pretty thick horned buck isn't he? Congrats to whomever harvested him.
-
Awesome buck, I agree with Rob, he would look great on my wall. I take him with Gov tag or Pres tag :chuckle:
-
I heard 11 Coug, but I see 10 counting the eyeguard. (could easily be another hiding in there someplace. Def a trash factor buck on that side. 8)
-
To me that picture makes it really hard to judge the size of that buck. It could be a dink or a total monster.
-
Could be a DINK ? Are you for real ? :dunno:
-
To me that picture makes it really hard to judge the size of that buck. It could be a dink or a total monster.
Perhaps a little more time in the field would help you, :dunno: clearly a shooter in my eyes and obviously 180+.
-
I like that buck, :twocents:, i love trash which can be harder to find than a typical 4x4..
-
Well, I for one would have filled a raffle tag or an incentive tag on that buck so I say
I think he is a beautiful deer. Congrats to the hunter.
-
What a GREAT buck...god hope i dont get this tag....i will NEVER post......the jelousy, crap, arm chair quarterbacking, etc.....is way to much! Great buck...thanks for posting!
-
To me that picture makes it really hard to judge the size of that buck. It could be a dink or a total monster.

No, more time in the field wouldn't change that picture. Although I would love to spend more time in the field if only I could afford the gas! :bash:
-
Well more time studying pics then, to any experienced mule deer hunter the picture clearly shows this to be a quality buck, "dink" would only be mentioned by the novice or pot stirrer.
-
That was a joke. Guess you didn't get it.
-
That was a joke. Guess you didn't get it.
Guess I didn't, and from a couple other replies I wasn't the only one.
-
Alright....who moderates the moderators? LOL
:chuckle: :chuckle:

:mod_smackdown:
-
Yeah, well I was serious about the photo. Maybe it's just me but I like to have something as a reference in the photo, a person, a tree, anything. In that photo there is nothing but sky. That's why I said it's hard to judge. You don't agree ??? Thought you were the photo connoisseur.
-
:chuckle:
-
based on the size of the trees in relation to that deer...its godzilla-esque...congrats on the buck, a true monster!
-
There he finally is! I can't decide if I'm happier too see it posted or that this thread finally hit 20 pages!!! :rockin:
-
Yeah, well I was serious about the photo. Maybe it's just me but I like to have something as a reference in the photo, a person, a tree, anything.
I circled the trees for you to reference.
Thanks for the help. Now since you know so much about it, can you tell me what is holding that deer's head up. I thought it was dead ???
-
I guess what I'd really like to see is a photo of the entire deer. Not just the head.
-
He would like great on my wall : :mgun2:
Congrats to the huter for taking such a fine animal :brew:
And ignore the ignorant people on here that will do nothing but give negative feed back.
:mor:
-
Congrats on a awesome buck!! Mass and trash, just how I like em! Later
-
chiwawa
-
And ignore the ignorant people on here that will do nothing but give negative feed back.
:mor:
:yeah:
-
I can only dream. Thanks for showing and thanks for putting the bucks back into the program.
-
ignorant feedback where?
I have no idea how big the buck is.
-
Great buck!!!!!!
-
Nice buck! Thanks for sharing. :)
-
Great buck... Hands down.
-
I think we should post someone on the roads to see what the natives are bringing out of there. :yike: I wonder if they are topping him.
I'd use the ears as a reference, or the distance between the eyes. He certainly has the mass, trash and color. He does seem like a younger deer, I wonder what he could have looked like in two years. I wouldn't bring up a score as he doesn't score beans as a typical and not enough long nontyp points to shoot him up as a nontyp. That doesn't take away from his wall factor though.
-
Finally! Nice buck!
-
No question here, Thats a fantastic buck! Just the way I like them, trashy ;)
-
Right on Bone.....I know he would look real nice in my little Trophy Room. Sometimes we sure can get carried away with "The Score"...
-
Nice buck with charcator , how would any one pass on him ? I'd chuck the score he's cool
-
lemondog and coach I think you are right on with your comments, all that really matters is that the guy who shot the buck is happy. :twocents:
-
Wow.
I have to say I'm totally taken aback by all the negativity and criticism of the hunter's decision to take it. I challage each and every one of the naysayers to go out in the field and put crosshairs on that buck like that and refuse to pull the trigger. How many of us would really let a buck like that get out of our sights? Yeah...that's what I thought.
How big is he? There's nothing to judge him by, ect... Who gives a damn? I think people get all wrapped up about scores and points, and 'trash factors' or whatever. Shut up!
I've always felt that discussing scores and only scores when talking about a buck is detrimental to the sport and demeaning to the animal. Respect the animal, instead of breaking it down to a bunch of measurements. How big is he? He's probably pretty damn big to the guy who shot him. At that's all the matters.
</end rant>
-
Thank you for posting the pic - fantastic buck. Love the trash and I would be very happy with it any day of the week. Best of luck next year - you got your work cut out for you if your plan is to top the character in this one.
-

I guess i will play devils advocate, I can guarantee that there are members on this board that have done this very thing you say we haven't, or someone hasn't. I know for a fact that deer like this in this B&C class have been seen, could have been shot and passed on for whatever reason.
Now to the important thing, awesome buck!! Congrats to the hunter and love all that trash!!!! would love to hear the story on here or in a magazine somewhere.
-

Wow. I can't even imagine. To each his own, I guess.
I just don't appreciate those who do go out and 'Trophy Hunt' putting down other hunter's bucks.

I think if people are looking for reasons to be negative they are always there. Governor type tags tend to bring out the most negativity for the obvious reasons. I don't know this guys story but whatever it is some will play armchair quarterback and say he should have done it this way or that way. If he has a posse of people out looking and kills a giant buck people will complain that its not really hunting etc to have so many guys looking and then you go kill a buck someone else found. If he chooses to hunt alone or with a friend and kills a buck he is happy with but wanted the experience of the tag and would rather find it himself than have someone else have some credit on his kill people will say he is stupid and did not utilize the tag. I think many have a different take on governor tag versus incentive or raffle because most could never afford governor tag. Bottom line the guy paid for the excitement of being in the field with a live tag for 3 months and if he had a great experience that cant be measured solely by the size of the trophy killed at the end of the hunt. These tags carry a tremendous amount of pressure. If you kill a great buck everyone says well you should have got a great buck you had the tag. If you kill anything less than a great buck everyone says how could you not kill a great buck with that tag. Most have no idea what true trophy hunting is like.

Nice post Romulus. :) There are also a lot good hunters in this state that have taken many tremendous animals that have no desire to post their pics and stories due to criticism and publicity. ;)
-
Great post Romulus......
I'd like to add a "little" commentary. There is a lot of talk of negativity and critisism, but sometimes I wonder if just plain discussion is being judged as that and that some of you might be blowing things out of proportion a bit. As I post something, I envision 20 of us standing around the fire, kicking coals and tossin back one or two from dew to beer. I don't imagine all 20 of us saying great buck and then thats the end of the conversation. I imagine us sharing what we missed, what he scored, what we saw, what we dream about seeing, etc. There is often going to be a difference in opinion, that doesn't mean it has to be construed as negative as long as its repectful. Of course there will be 5,000 opinions on what is respectful. I might even be the problem to some of this as I tend to call it as I see it, am often vocal and do have opinions. I also like to "chew the fat." There are some of us on here that have been around here longer so we have a better idea of what each other is thinking. I can see how this can be interpreted by an outsider. I have my own opinions on Govenor tags and incentive tags....some of it is positive and some of it negative. I'd like to think of it as a learning curve though as I have changed my ground after talking to some of these guys involved, and as I sit back and try to see the big picture. I think the point of this whole rant is that discussion, internet conversation, even respectfully expressing your opinion, should not always be considered ridicule, put down, negative critisim etc. There is armcahir quarterbacking as that is what this is about sort of on here, but there is also sincerety. For example, I could say I would pass on that deer and try for a bigger one, but that in NO MEANS would mean I would be critisising a man for shooting that animal. I almost chose to shoot a two point last year with my Alta tag. Some of you may have thought I was nuts. I want a huge two point, and to stalk a true old buck with a longbow might have been challenging enough for me. That would have been my decision. Pats on the back are always welcome, but I think to some, so is discussion. Scores will come up, opinions about scores will then come up, width, heigth, mass, etc. That is part of it. I know everyone of you has patted a guy on the back for taking an animal that you may not have shot, becasue it was a trophy to that individual. Some have even flipped another friend, member, brother, a little kidding as well. I still laugh at Longtats milk on the lips critters, and then he turns this year into a shooting clinic taxidermy frenzy. I'd imagine if you can't handle it, you ought not to post it. There, I ranted more than Stevo.

Yeah, well I was serious about the photo. Maybe it's just me but I like to have something as a reference in the photo, a person, a tree, anything. In that photo there is nothing but sky. That's why I said it's hard to judge. You don't agree ??? Thought you were the photo connoisseur.
It's just you  if you need more reference than the head than I would concure with others that you need more practice judging before you start bidding on the Gov tag!!! And I for one have passed on big bucks in fact ask my partner I passed on a couple 170+ buck last year in hopes of bigger and went home with a smaller one so I can speak from experience on that. Having said that there is no way I would pass on this guy ... if he was standing on the north pole 5000 miles from the nearest tree I wouldn't need anything for reference!!! And Bobcat look under his chin and you'll see the guys hand holding the head up ... you may want to go get your prescription checked :dunno:
And BTW Miles your OK!!! :chuckle: Did I just say that :dunno: :chuckle:
-
I agree with you ! I tend to be a lot more critical if a guy throws out a score or if I am involved with the animal. Some of the posts such as "its a dink" can in no way be construed as anything but critical. I have my personal opinion of this buck and what I would hope to get if I had that tag but I know the hunting gods have a way of humbling you if you get to cocky. I did not necessarily think any of your own posts were to critical I just have the opinion that if the guy never threw out a score, never posted a picture and did not seem to be bragging I will just say good buck and leave it at that. If he had come on saying 32 inch wide 230 buck and it clearly was not the case then I am of the opinion of "putting him in his place". I think the animal should speak for itself. Not saying its right or wrong its just how I operate and based on reading your entire last post I would say you are similar. Everyones life and opportunities are different. Some of us live to hunt and others get limited opportunity. If it is a trophy to them but not to you it does not need to be said. This is not directed at you Bone but at some of the constantly critical posters. If you have to tell everyone that you are a great hunter and put other people down all the time it should tell you something. If you really are a great hunter others will speak for you.
-
Good post by Boneaddict. My thoughts exactly. Seems some are taking my posts as being negative. They're not meant that way. To me it's pointless to say "great buck" as many have already said that and I don't see a need to state the obvious. I just commented on the picture itself. Being the great buck that it is, I would like to see more pictures. If the hunter doesn't post any, fine. That was just my thought at the time. Who here would not like to see more pictures, showing the deer from different angles and maybe more than just the head? And like Boneaddict, I just don't see much criticism or negativity in this entire thread. I'm totally confused at the posts that say people have been "putting down" a buck that somebody has taken. It's just a discussion, nothing more. Sorry if you all take my posts as being negative. In this state, to me any 4 point muley that would score around 150 or better is a trophy. I would never consider passing up a buck like the one posted in this thread.
-
awesome buck. Heavy antlered for sure! gonna look great on the wall. Congrats to the hunter for taking this animal. Trophy in my book hands down

congrats to the hunter on a great buck!

2 more great posts by bone and romulus. IMO, you couldn't have said it better. :)

Spot on Rom.

Just to add one more thought; I notice that anytime the hunter "takes us along for the hunt", the feedback is overwhelmingly positive from this site.
I notice Gov's tag hunters being criticized in more places than this site, both generally and individually, but I would venture a guess that if one of the regular members here bid on the auction tag and got it, then posted a thread walking us through the whole process, from winning the tag, to the prep work, scouting, the hunt, the ups, the downs and finally taking an animal, I'll bet that thread would be 50 pages of us cheering the guy on.
I know there are a few guys on this site that won't post outstanding trophys because of criticism, but I would encourage them to do so, and take us along for the hunt when they do it. The more you tell us what happened and what you were thinking when it happened, and the more pics you post, the more it is appreciated.
Like Bone said; we are all hunters here, sitting around a virtual campfire, telling hunting stories. When was the last time you looked back at a guy across the fire and told him to shut up?

That is a very good post.
I think the other thing that goes into some of "the criticism" is that there are always stories that come out about posse hunting, shooting the wrong animal, trespassing, or massive ethical failings on these hunts. Hell even the game dept complains about some of the stuff that goes down..... :dunno:
-
Just like the elk fiasco in 4941, the whole group suffers because of the actions of a few.
-
Look im the biggest cheerleader for hunting around here but when we get one story on the forums and another in emails from people who know what really went down and when they dont match up it makes it hard to get all rah rah about this stuff.
I support gov tags 1000% and hope I can buy one someday :twocents:

I cannot agree more with what you and Bone have said in regards to this. Its all about the stories, the good, the bad and the indifferent. I love hearing about the whole process from start to finish, and I love to hear from the hunter and the people that have helped the hunter. Makes me appreciate this sport I take part in and the people I can share it with.

IMO - It seems like sitting at the computer people are not personable in the same way they are around the camp fire. If about 25% of the guys making the nasty comments on here were sitting at my campfire making the same comments, I would just tell them to leave. But I think people in general just aren't as sincere or as personable when sitting at the computer.
It's too bad, becuase it gives other people who read their words the wrong impression (hopefully that's why they seem so blunt and disrespectful). :twocents:
Just trying to rationalize why there are some comments put in the context we see. :twocents:
-
Thats a great deer no matter what in my eyes congrats to the hunter.
-
Yada, yada, yada, yada :chuckle: :chuckle:
Great buck, congrats to the hunter ;) This thing really did hit 20 plus pages :chuckle: I dont think it has passed up Dmans bobcat post though :chuckle:
-
You're right Pathfinder. Just look at Wea300's hunt. That was one of my all time favorite threads on here when he had the raffle tag.
-
No kidding, and to top it off with that soup pic was a classic :chuckle:
-
I think that we see, or react to the differences more.... I've notices that when I've strongly disagreed with posts, at some point I see where the person I disagree with and myself aren't really disagreeing that much.... We disagree on about 10% strongly and mostly agree on the rest... :twocents:
-
Did someone from here go and post a topic on MM about this buck? Talking about this buck is not worthy of the Gov Tag. What a *censored*.
-
I didnt do it..

and you guys thought I was an a$$. LOL

I have been criticized for stating my opinion that too much testosterone exists on this site. This thread is a typical example of why I have that opinion.
I have been a hunter for 20 years and have gone through my share of struggles trying to figure out how to find and kill a legal buck and then how to consistently kill a legal buck each year and then how to kill a mature buck each year (something that still eludes me more often than not). I think my motivation for being a part of this site is similar to most: 1) to learn, 2) to share comaraderie with fellow hunters, and 3) to do a little bragging when I bag something. I guess when I do a little bragging I am doing so because I feel good about a personal accomplishment and I hope to see a little positive feedback. No feedback is fine too. But what I find disturbing is that some people actually take time out of their day to provide negative feedback to people who take an animal that doesn't measure up to their personal standard in terms of antler size. Every time I see those kind of comments I realize that there is yet another person in the world who is still too immature to have grown up and realized that life is not about trying to "one up" the rest of the world. For crying out loud, don't be a fricken jerk to people in order to elevate your status in the pecking order! All that does is make other people realize what an insecure jerk you are.
Sure, it's a neat experience to bag a large-antlered buck and it's great to preserve the rack in some form in order to relive the hunt from time to time. But is it really all about the size of the rack?
"Great buck!" (That would be a very nice comment and it speaks well of a person to make such a comment).
"That's a dink." "I can't believe you wasted your money for that." "You should have held out for something bigger." (Only an insecure dolt would make these kinds of comments. Seriously).
-
good post, well said Dipsnort!
-
Thats a great post Dipsnort. I would brag if I killed something my kids don't rib me about. But I do like to see those who are successful, and hear the stories of those that eat tag soup. I think the point is to be out enjoying nature, friends, family etc. I am on this site alot, just because I can't be out. I just don't have much to add. I have alot of hunting memories especially as a kid when I went more. and reading others reminds me of those good/great times. Stirs up the mental pot if you will. Thats what I get the most of about this site.
PS. Sometimes a good argument doesn't hurt the entertainment value either :chuckle:
-
and you guys thought I was an a$$. LOL
Who said you were not? LOL
-
Amen, Dipsnort.
I'm still trying to figure out what Craig was talking about...?
:dunno:
-
like the old saying to each there own, people should not let other people ideas effect there thoughts of what there trophy is. i am always catching crap for my :twocents: but that is why it is my :twocents: i understand allot of what is being said allot of people won't just say nice buck or congrats they have to dig and go way off topic to get a jab in and i can unstersatnd if someone posted somthing that was not legal or somthing bad for the comunity but we all need to stick together and if you can't say somthing nice don't say nothing at all and don't bash people for there own :twocents:. is my thoughts.

Over a half dozen posts have been deleted since I checked that thread on MM yesterday....... :o
-
bummer it was just starting to get entertaining.. :chuckle:
-
and they say we over-moderate stuff.... :dunno:
it looks like bone made a post on it that got nuked...anybody know what he said?
-
I think there were accusations that people were *censored*bags... :lol4:
-
Wow, can't believe that got nuked. LOL Must not have been Utah friendly. :chuckle: I said something like...there was almost %100 chance he didn't have permission to post that pic and that showed what kind of class of person he was. Probably why he got banned from the other site. Whether I agree if that was a "shooter or not or worthy of that tag", its a nice buck and he shot it and can be happy with it. " something along those lines. If I would have known it was going to be nuked, I'd have called him a *censored*bag and kept it short. :chuckle:
-
I just wanted to post on this thread, so I could feel cool about being part of such an epic thread ; )
-
yeah me too..
:yeah: :cmp1:
-
...my bad. ;)
As I said over there (or did I?), I don't have a clue who the guy is that shot it. What I do know is that some fool takes a cell phone photo and STARTS A THREAD about the gov's tag buck not being 'gov. tag worthy'...I think it's pretty safe to say that he isn't friends with the guy...meaning he most probably doesn't have permission to post it.
What kind of *censored*bag does that?
It's one thing to chime in on a 28 page beauty like this one and say something (still lowbrow BTW), but to go start a new topic and then trash it??
I'll try to keep the D word in the holster around here, boys...
-
Funny thing is, the governor tag guy had the time of his life with his tag and is thrilled with his success. :)

And this is what is most important! I'm glad for him, and the great men that had the opportunity to assist him.

I'm sure he didn't have permission!!! like I said before I do know who it is, I know his brother and some of his friends better though and they made it clear that the type of thing that happend on MM and the way that this post started on here is the reason these guys don't post on these forums! They said and I quote "Those forums are like being in Jr high again and I don't have time for it!" And that's really too bad because these guys have lots of trophy animals and stories to go with them in fact I am going over to one of their houses this weekend to see a buck taken in Colorado that will score over 180 and unfortunately the story and pics will not be on here ... Some ruin it for all!!! :bash:
-
I've decided next year i will buy the Gov's Tag, plannin on scouting this guy hard next year....what do you guys think?
-
Now that is a stud !
-
Funny thing is, the governor tag guy had the time of his life with his tag and is thrilled with his success. :)
And rightfully so.

This thread makes my day just readin every reply, let's get this to 1000 posts by feb! Cmon guys!

Ah. I was unfamilar with the 'MM' acronym.

I would have shot a spike just to see what kind of reaction I would get from here! :chuckle:
-
Vis I posted that about 20 pages and 200 replies ago ; )
-
Well I guess that teaches me to read all the pages. :bash:
-
Lol its all good, at this point I think were just shooting for 1000 replies lol
-
Well said Miles, my opinion exactly.
-
I hadn't really thought of it that way Miles. Interesting point.
-
They don't look the same :dunno:
-
thats not the washington buck. that buck is from either utah or colorado and is a couple years old.
-
Bad angle but I think he's at least 4 1/2.... :chuckle:
-
If I had the gov tag, I would have shot that buck also, it is huge to me and it was obviously worth shooting to the tag holder. Nice Buck!
-
So is that pic Austrian Hunter posted the Washington Gov. Tag buck or not?
-
No. The 09 gov tag buck was posted on page 18 by realization1929.

Thanks..
