Title: 870 express vs. wingmaster question
Post by: Gutpile on December 21, 2009, 08:11:54 AM
Are the barrels interchangeable between an express and a wingmaster?

To my knowledge the only difference between the two is things like finish and quality of the finish on the woods/metals. if you have an 870 barrels should be interchangable between any variation. Having said that i probably wouldn't use a really old 870 designed to shoot 2 3/4" shells with a newer magnum barrel for 3" or 3.5" shells. Just my personal opinion though on that last part.

I have a magnum wingmaster so that shouldn't be an issue. The barrel on it now has a poly choke which is blown and wont pattern anymore. I want to get a shorty turkey barrel for coyotes. Thats why I ask.

I figured finish was the difference but wasn't sure. I've heard that they are and are not interchangeable but didn't know for sure.

Gutpile I just looked in Cabelas Magazine, all I can tell you is in the barrel order chart the EXP barrels are different price, different number, and listed separately.??
Makes me think there is some difference.

the special field barrels are the only ones that wont fit as far as i know. the diffrence between the wingmaster and express is just finish. unless you get the light conture(sp) which is lighter
