From the regs
I would assume hunting would apply, but in your case I would make a call as you're really not hunting.

Hunting or pursuing any big game animal,
bobcat, or coyote with dogs is prohibited,
except cougar hunting as permitted by the
Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Thanks , ill give them a call . this kinda stuff is exactly why i quit my NWCO with the state . they used to call me with a problem and i would take care of it , then they decided after the trapping ban they would make us buy a license to be a NWCO . I told them to shove it where the sun dont shine , doing them a favor and they want to charge you for it . Typical government B.S.

This amazes me it took a voter initiative to ban the use of dogs for cat or bears but the dumb game dept can do it without public approval that is just B.S.
I have 3 catahoulas that are just chomping at the bit to chase a coyote.

Catahoula is what i use , been useing him for decoy and denning dog for 6 years now . If i cant use him anymore im gonna really be pissed .
Dont chase the coyotes with those great dogs , use one of them as a decoy , they work great once the breeding season starts .
Good looking dogs by the way , Catahoulas are a wonderfull dog in my opinion . I never have to worry about my family when im away . Heres my OBE , he trains coyotes real well lol.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv493%2Fjerrymalbeck%2FObeanddecoycoyote.jpg&hash=77721bce1777bfe10acbd3d43177ba5658bb731e)

:)A lot of folks do not know how much power the game commission has. they apss all sorts of "rules" that are not "laws" but are enforced as such. Like hunter orange. It comes back to in this state hunting is a privelige not a right.

Jerry, nice looking Catahoula. Is that your decoy coyote?

Bofire,
How is hunting a privilege its a right when just like the Indians my ancestors hunted to for survival they didn't have supermarkets? I think this is why it is so easy for govt to take things away they have everyone convinced its a privilege.
Is owning a gun or a privilege?
Is feeding your family a privilege? Hunting wild game to me is how I would rather feed my family. I prefer to kill it myself. Then be force to pay someone.
Is owning a home a right or privilege?
By using the word privilege it opens the door to keep taking things away with no recourse.

Beautiful dogs, NWhydro and Jerry.

This topic has been discussed earlier this year and I believe that the concensus was that it is illegal to have a dog with you even.  For example if you take your Labrador with you to sit with you while waiting for a yote, you would be breaking the law. :bash:

I went to the meetings last year, voiced my strong STRONG anger over this topic.  The Fish and Game Department deemed coyote hunting with dogs as "socially unacceptable".  I have been fuming ever since.  You cannot use decoy dogs, it is illegal.  I brought this very point up at the meetings with the WDFW.  They were adamant, you cannot have a dog with you if you shoot coyotes.  What a bunch of BS!

Hey NWhydro, I aint the lawyers and politicions that made the law that way, it is the law hunting is a privledge in this state. That is why the comission can make "rules". I have argued for years that we need to organize and amend the constitution (state) to make it a "right". No Support. The amendment is already written. it is one sentence. All accross the USA states are passing this by public vote.
2. owning a gun is a right
3. privlige, even "owning" your property to farm or hunt, dont pay your "rent" (taxes) and see how long you "own" it.
4. see above.

My point exactly Bofire when they change it from a right to a privilege we have no more say in it.
Before you no it it will be a privilege to do anything! We the people need to take our country back and let the politicions no that it a privilege that they have a job and we can take it away from them.

NW yep thats my decoy dog , I used to use him alot during breeding season , he dens great and has one hell of a nose . he did really well on sets as he will stay right with me unless i give him the nod to go out . When i allow him to go he will go when he hears a howl in the distance and bring them back hot on his heels. what a great tool and a great animal , he is our familys best asset , great protection for the wife and kid when im out on the road , he would die for them no doubt in my mind . I have been very blessed to find an animal like him .

It is a privilege.  Our best bet is to link it to fishing, with a C.A. that in the State of WA, hunting, fishing and trapping are rights of the residents of the state.  Until then, just a privilege.

I wish decoy dogs were legal it's so different than hound hunting. There is a bird dog training season but I have read somewhere there is a period around bird nesting that it is illegal to even have a dog in the field
