My dad and i are taking a trip to montana in may for my birthday to go fly fishing. I go out on the green and i catch fish everytime albeit small but I am a novice fly fisherman. I was hoping you guys could give me a little insight, like what flies to use, where to go, etc. It would be really helpful. As far as where to go we are cheap people gotta love the bates motels. :lol4:

Depending on the winter, and where you go, you may be ice fishing still in May. lol
The big fly fishing river is the Yellowstone. There are some others, but am not a fly fisherman.

May and June can be tough to plan a trip because of runoff. Fishing can be really good before and after but once the snow starts melting things shut down for a while. If you need to set aside a date now I would shoot for mid April or mid July. There are a few tailwaters but they can get really crowded when everything else is blown out. The Big Horn can be good but I would definately recommend hiring a guide if you have never fished it. Feel free to PM me to talk more options and specific info.
