I went along with a friend who shot a bison with a bow. Butchering it later really saw how thick, hair, hide, bone etc is on the animal and penetration is very important.
Number of articles on bowhunting web sites to get or make a heavy arrow.
Magnus is a good head or grizzly head is even more durable and better penetration. Maybe move up to 125 grains or grizzly makes 180 grain head too.
I am a big believer in heavy arrows and 2 blade heads for better penetration in larger game. 69 lbs should be fine as long is arrow is well tuned which I am sure it is.
Sounds like it should be a fun hunt

Big bull: 10 grains per pound of draw arrow weight and single bevel, two blade broadhead, EFOC balance=sucess (oh yeah+close range)
Bring a buddy with a camera. It should be the "Hunt of a Lifetime".

I know a lot of thoughts regarding light fast arrow vs heavy slower arrow when hunting. I would suggest using at least a 600 grain arrow for bison. :twocents:Thanks for advise. Went by my local Bowshop yesterday to talk with my local expert. He showed me some inserts that he could insert in my arrows to bring them up to around 650 gr. I also looked at the 125 grain Magnus 2 blade. This is a meat hunt so the shot should be farly close. Gona work up a couple diffrent shafts and see how they fly..Again thanks for advise

Good suggestion. I would go with a 700 grain arrow minimum. At least 200 grains up front and a 60 lb draw bow. Word on the street is that they are not nearly as tough to penetrate as an African or Asian water Buffalo. A true Buffalo... Sounds kind of fun.

The hunt I'm considering most strongly is in Mt.

A meat bull is $795 The guide takes u to area you shoot, they gut and load in your truck,
my understanding is for and additional $150 they will skin and quarter animal for you.
My local game processor said would be about .50 a lb to cut and wrap
At around 350 to 400 lbs of meat you would end up spending around $1200 + fuel/room/food/ etc.
for $3600 worth of prime eating when priced at Safeway :cue:
