Title: Montana/Wyoming Antelope help needed
Post by: gasman on January 15, 2010, 09:27:55 PM
My planned private property hunt planned for this year is in jeopardy and I am starting to look at other alternative if it goes south.

What I want is to do a DIY hunt for analope in either Montana or Wyoming. I know i need to head to the western part of either places for big numbers of animal, but what i do not know is where the public land is  :dunno:
I will be contacting the Game Dept for both states and gathering info and maps of public area, but would like some help from those of you out there have experience and knowledge.

recommendation of hunting unit for either states?
Recommendation or information on public land (FS, DNR, State Land, BLM, Etc..) in either state?

And and all help would be greatly appreciated

(feel free to PM me if you do not want the info on the open public forum)

Again, Thanks.

From the research I've done I'd look at NE Wyoming. Eastern Montana is good as well. Most of your hunting in these areas will be on private property. Montana has the Block Management Program so you should be able to get on some good private property. For Wyoming I believe the units with lots of public land take a couple points to draw. Wyoming has a lot of info on their website. Good luck, I want to go but can't afford it this year. Hopefully in another year or two I'll be able to go to either Wyoming or Montana. I hunted antelope in 2001 in eastern Montana near Jordan and had a good hunt, on Block Management property. Only bad thing is I killed my buck in the first 10 minutes on the first day. So I didn't get to hunt much.   :bash:

I spent the morning on the we with both state F&G and my brain is fried  :bash:

Washington's Game Regs are much easier to desifer then those. I think i have a idea of where i am going to be researching.

Montana: region 702 and 703, just east of the indian reservation, North and south of the Hwy. I did notice there is a NF in the are also.

Wyoming: Johnson County around Buffalo. Still trying to get a better idea of Wyoming and have to lok for some land ownership maps of easten Wyoing.

Any one have any info on these area?  :dunno:
