Heres another cool pic. Are the swimming or cooling off? A lot of horn in this pic

Those are awesome pictures. Do you work at the plant? I have thought about putting in for that unit but I hear the farmers charge thousands for you to access their property. Anyone know if this is true?
-
Hey Bearhunter,
I think a relative of yours just showed me those same pictures a couple of days ago. His has two offices, one in Kent and one in Seattle. Sound familiar?
-
Both pics are awesome.

I am sure that there are some farmers that charge to hunt their property or to access other land through their property, but check out the hiking trail Rattlesnake Ridge on this web site www.imacnw.org/maps.html This will get you about 5 miles off highway 225. I have hiked this trail, and others have told me that you can keep heading up the mountain, cross country, but I do not have any info on property boundaries. Hope this helps. Muleysniper, that building is part of the old town that was evacuated when the government took over the land. I believe that that building is the old school house. Would I eat the elk? I grew up in the Tri Cities and have hunted and fished here all of my life. I eat the salmon and ducks that I shoot off of the river. I would eat the elk that I shot off of Rattlesnake Ridge. They spend a lot of time in the apple orchards and vineyards on the SW side of Rattlesnake Mt.

Crunchy, not sure who your talking about I dont have any relatives down that way there sure are some nice bulls on the refuge though!
-
What a great photo! I saw a show that said the herd was getting so big that they had to transplant many of the animals. Sounds like they have a good thing going over there.

it seems there is a herd like that every year. i have one pic with 18 together. i will try to find it. dont get caught with a camera out there. they will throw you in the brig. right now there is 2 herds along 240/241 about 100 head a piece i have seen as many as 400 together in one spot. and yes the meat is quite delightful.

Nice pics, thanks for posting them!!
-
Bearhunter, the reason I asked was that a coworker showed them to me. He said that a relative of his took them. At least I thought that is what he said. his family has land or land access out there.
-
We got three bulls just west of the DOE fence line about 15 years ago. It is hard to find a farmer that won't charge an arm and a leg to get on their property. There is some state land access by Prosser, I don't know where it is, but a customer just took one from there. That unit also has a longer season for modern and I believe it's any elk.
-
i believe it now costs 5000 a head on martinez land. dont know about the rest. but a least they aren't getting deprivation money if they charge for the tags.
-
Diamond is charging 6,000 a head for bulls, but will let you get a cow for free, at least I think if you ask. The guy that owns it is the Uncle to a gal I am supervisor of. I was invited to go out there to shoot a cow, but quite frankly my freezers are full. She said there were 200 cows standing in the alafalfa feild next to their house and they want me to come out and shoot one. Not really my style of hunting so I just said thanks for the offer, then drove to NM and shot one of those stinky bulls.
-
It's their land, but I think it is funny how they complained about the elk for so long. Now they are charging assinine amounts of money to shoot one. Never heard they had to charg to receive depredation payments. If that is true not only are they making a lot on trespass fees but getting paid. Again my only comment is how they wanted them shot so badly and how terrible it was. Yes, I can speak to this with some experience because we have depredation problems with deer. We solve it really simple. We let youth hunters only shoot them. Really helps us out. I would think if it really is a problem they could solve it also without double dipping.

I can promise you, I wouldn't even spend 6,000 for a bull down in Arizona let alone in someones alfalfa field next to their house. I don't care how big he is. Thats just me though. According to the little gal that works for me, they have guys that come over from the wetside all the time to bust these bulls for that much. NUTS! Speaking of money. I wonder who will take the raffle tag home today or next weekend (whenever it is) and for how much.
-
ZZZZactly what he said.
-
i with bone also, but i will say that there is some huge bulls out their. that guy form wapato that killed that 440sci bull above moxee area. and i have seen 2 other bulls killed that were 370 real easy. so the potential for a lifetime trophy is certainly there but like you said to pay that much for an animal is ridiculous.
-
I am a firm believer in the sport of hunting. There is a reason that we call fishing fishing, not catching. Likewise hunting is hunting not killing. If some guy that has $6000 to buy his bull wants to go shoot one the is right next to a farmer's house, good for him. But I can guarantee that my buck that cost me the price of a tag, tank of gas and a week of camping with some really good friends and family means more to me than any $6000 trophy. Just my two cents
-
knowing some of the people that have shot some animals out there it is not just walk out to field and shoot one . i am sure that it happens from time to time but i know that it is not the norm. most of the area is what i would consider normal hunting other than the fact it costs you a whole lot more money. not my cup of tea either but it is fair chase hunting.
-
Hey Yes Can I have one?
coonhunter ;)
-
I talked to Martinez a few years back and he told me that the guy who shot that huge bull that may be a state record came off of his land. When I asked how much it cost him he said $10,000. I think the guy who shot the bull was from Wapato and it was in the Yakima news paper.
-
well im not going toact like a snob....
If i had the money i would...but i dont so i wont.....
Ide do anything to get an awesome trophy!
-
I really think if our license dollars are going to pay for the management of these animals then there should be some kickback to the WDFW from the prices these people charge to hunt on there land.
Charge 5000 for a bull donate 500 back to WDFW, when there fences get torn down and WDFW helps repair them they do not pay the WDFW, but when they get a hefty amount from bulls we pay to manage they expect not to pay...

Hey bone, where is that diamond ranch at?
