I have just put a T/C omega northwest edition on lay a way. I have been reading about some troubles with pellet style powders and would like to know what you guy's are using?
-
777 loose. The 777 pellets are only designed to be used with 209 ignition. I've had some serious issues with them. I use to use pyrodex pellets. They where way easy to load. But 777 loose is way easier to clean up.

I shoot a Knight Wolverene .54 cal with musket caps and pyrodex pellets. The only mis-fire I have ever had was when it counted the most this last season. A 25 yard broadside shot at a spike bull elk ruined because I unknowingly loaded the pellets in backwards....yes they can be loaded wrong. One side of the pellet has an ignition powder on it. :bash:

I use loose Triple 7.

pyrodex pellets

Used to use pellets now use loose 777. It is the best and cleans up very easily. Very consistent shooting
-
ive used everything 777 loose is the best

Loose Triple 7. Also allows you to fine tune your load in smaller increments vs. larger increases or decreases with pellets. I think it also packs better and you don't loose your perceived powder charge as one could with pellets flaking off. :twocents:

Use to use 777..... Switched to Pyrodex Pellets for ease of use...

I use loose 777 in my rifles and Cearshot in my shotguns.

hodgdon pyrodex RS is all I have ever used and it works great

x2 for me. works great
allot of the problems that have come with the pellets is because they were designed to be used with 209 never had a problem with musket caps when i started out using them when i first started muzzleloading you can only use #11 in that gun and #11 and pellets don't mix well had a friend that tried that and had all kinds of hang fires and delayed fires :bdid:

777 ALL THE WAY

I have been using American Pioneer Powder compressed sticks in my Bighorn.
Been really happy with it and it cleans up with water.
-
black powder!

I used pellets for a couple yrs (pyrodex) and had trouble with misfires >:( cost me a big 5 point(whitetail) three yrs ago,i was using musket caps.
Went back to 777 loose and haven't had ANY missfires and I'm using #11 caps. So the answer from me to your question is 777 loose. :IBCOOL:

same question I shoot a Lyman trade rifle .50 Cal which I really like except that it weighs a ton. I've always used pyrodex rs would the 777 be a better choice?
