Title: Spotlight battery tip
Post by: Slideshow86 on January 19, 2010, 07:21:59 AM: I have been doing a little spotlighting and have figured out a pretty good setup to use when walking and spotlighting.

First was my spotlight, its a Rally brand 3million cp for $37. Its housing is a large metal heat sink. It also had a battery meter, a trigger lock, a dimmer switch and 2 different handles.

Next was an automotive jump start pack from an auto parts store w/ 12v socket. I already had a little one I paid $40 for and it. It is rechargeable and holds its own power. It has a battery meter aswell.

I plugged the spotlight in and tossed the jump pack in my back pack and it worked great! Now I just need to find out the max running time for this thing. Right now I think I get about 2 hours on the spotlight alone at max brightness. I could dim in and get a bit more. in just wondering total run time of my jump pack?

Post by: Machias on January 19, 2010, 09:21:09 PM: You should check out the new LED spotlights and headlamps. The spotlight has a burn time of 10 hours and is about the size of a hand held hairdryer. The headlamp is outstanding, with a burn time of 32+ hours. I can see eyes out to 350 yards and can see to shoot 150-200 yards. Weighs next to nothing. These are the lights of the future for sure.

another solution that would be more light weight than carrying a jump box is only carrying the battery and wiring it in with a automotive cig lighter. same thing as a jump box but no useless crap

they use these in all sorts of stuff electric scooters, power wheels emergency lighting, back up computer power supply etc etc. they are various prices on ebay as well as ratings. i just used the link as an example. remember the higher the amp hours the longer the life. i use them mainly for 24v power wheels for my daughter :)

just food for thought since these batteries are all sorts of handy for misc stuff.

wouldn't the gathering of solar power kind of eliminate the need for the spot light? you know since the suns out and stuff

I was kidding around as seeing how long it would take someone to say something. I think it would be funny to try and sell one on ebay. LOL

Post by: tlbradford on January 28, 2010, 09:13:40 AM: If you like the brand I would see if you can find something a lot less powerful. Something between a 100,000 and 500,000 candlepower. You will get a lot more battery life and still see far enough to light up eyes out to 400 yards. Does the dimmer function like a rheostat or only dim the light? You need a rheostat that limits the draw on the battery to give you more battery life.

The LED lights are very interesting, but I haven't played with them. It sounds like Machias loves his though.
