Post by: T-ROY on January 24, 2008, 03:39:42 PM
to all you sea duck hunters, what would ge a good tail length on a longtail drake, got a pretty nice one last weekend, but with my limited sea duck hunting experiance i'm not sure if  it is worth getting mounted. its my first mature drake i've taken.

Well my boat has taken quite a few between 8 and 11 inches this year that would be my standard right about 9-10 inches some do get bigger on the rare occasion.

T-ROY,
Lets see a picture of your bird. I have shot a few this year that were 9" and they are in beautiful shape for me to mount. I have some mounted that have 8" and they look awesome as well. I think it takes more than just a long tail to make a nice mount.I wish I could get an 11".

muley... they are few and far between.  we shot lots of longtails before finding them that size but they are out there keep looking and you will eventually get them.
