Post by: Sea_Chicken1 on January 20, 2010, 10:37:08 AM
Hi Everyone... I and new to this forum and new to hunting in general. My friend an I are planning to go bear hunting here in a couple months up in gmu418 and I was wondering if anyone knows it it is ok to hunt on Sierra Pacific marked land. Everything else around the baker lake area seems to be gated off.

Hunting is allowed, but its boot, bycicle or horse only.  No motorized vehicles behind the gates.  If you get an animal down you can contact the Sierra Pacific Security and a lot of times they will come and haul it out for you.  I would stop in at the mainline gate in Hamilton and speak with there security guy.  He can give you the ins and outs.

If you're gonna go Bear hunting in a couple of months... Ya'll oughta have the Spring Bear Permit in your grimie little fingers. Otherwise you might want to wait for the general opener later in the year.

Thanks for the info on Sierra Pacific. We drove up on their land off of baker lake road and there was no gate and no signs posted where we came up. I'll be getting my tags by the end of the month.

Just out of curiosity what kind of Bear tag are you getting at the end of the month? :dunno:

That sucks I was hoping you could pick one up. The hunting laws are screwy as far as the seasons and it seems like your wrong no matter what you d the way they are written.

They have a lot of new signs up on their ungated roads that say something like “No entry without permission”.  No one really seemed to be paying much attention to the signs however.

The seasons are the easiest thing to read and understand in the regulation pamphlet  :dunno:

You can walk in to the gated areas. The signs are kind of misleading. I have talked to a couple people to include security. It is fine as long as you are non-motorized.
