Title: New Old BT Shed
Post by: bow4elk on January 21, 2010, 10:45:34 AM
Stumbled onto this stout blacktail shed the other day.  I'm not sure how I overlooked it over the past two winters but I did.  It's laying right in a trail I've walked more than a dozen times  :bash:

First pic is the ATL.  Not exactly difficult to see given this was in an open space.

Good one for sure. I'd like to see that buck today.

Could it have been carried there in between looks? Nice one for sure. Have you found the big ones yet?

Nope.  I need to put some more boot time looking for the non-typical sheds, assuming they've dropped by now.  I saw a hefty 2x3 still packing yesterday so I may wait another week or two before getting too serious about it.  I was hoping for a good dumping of snow to pack things down but I think that's wishful thinking at this point.

I'm now wondering if it's from the buck I rattled in back in November not 100 yards from where I found it.  The antler appears to be two years old, possibly three.  This buck is filled out so a couple years ago, he likely was a heavy 3pt.

That's a beautiful buck in the vid. I'm heading out tomarrow to look for sheds in skagit county. Lots of deer in the clearcuts in Nov. I s there a certain area I should concentrate on...clearcuts, timber edges or in the timber. I haven't really looked for blacktail sheds....mostly whitetail and mulie for me. Any advice would help.

That's still a good find and in good shape for on that has been laying out for a while, that is also a great movie you did of the blacktail buck, good hunting on your shed horns this year, takes a lot of walking.
