Title: Zen-Ray
Post by: steeleywhopper on January 24, 2010, 03:13:47 PM: Looking at getting some new bino's and I was thinking about the Zen-Ray's. What would be the differences between the 8x43 and the 10x43. I have always had the 10x42 power in my other bino's so I guess what i'm looking for is this, what would I gain and lose by moving to a 8x43. I have not had a chance to look through anything yet so no comparison has been made by me.

I have the ZenRay ED2's in 10x43. Absolutely love them. You will not be disappointed. In fact don't even waste your time comparing them to any Bino's under a grand.......no comparison. Just go right to the top of the field and compare to Swaro's....not quite as good...but close. Then take the difference you would have spent and buy yourself a new rifle and scope...lol.

I had the 8x42's in my hand (thanx Fishseeker), comparing to my Nikon 10x25's, and the 8x's are nice, but the 10x42 Zen's are sweet. A little heavier than many products but they appear to be ruggedly built. The focus knob is extremely smooth compared to many models available. Nice lens covers too. (rubber/silicone instead of plastic)

Alot of people like the Zen's. However I've only had mine for 8 months and the diopter adjustment is already broken. Not sure how. I did low crawl through an old wheatfield for 80 yds :dunno:. In any case most people like them. I don't. Just my :twocents: I'm gonna keep them until I save up enough money for some Swaro's.

My advice is since hunting season is a ways off; save up as much as you can until hunting season and then buy the best piece of glass you can afford.

Thanks for considering ZEN ED2 for your potential binoculars. There are many great inputs to your question already. I will try to add a few more: with lower power like 8x, you will gain larger FOV (426ft vs 340ft). The depth of field is slightly better, not whole lot. Most people like 8x for better handhold capability. Of course, objects will look proportionallt smaller with 8x than 10x. If you hunt a lot in open country, a 10x might be better for you. If you spend more in woods or use it for all around binoculars, I would recommend 8x.

Post by: high country on January 25, 2010, 06:23:58 PM: having 8, 10, 12 and 15 power alpha binos....I suggest 8x for every day use. 10x is harder to steady by a smosh, picks up more heat waves and as said depth and fov losses

The only negative I can thing of is they seemed a bit heavy once...but then again...I was hiking up the back side of Mt Baker and the closer I got to the top the heavier everything got! :'(

I'm sure you won't regret getting a pair. If you get a chance...see if anyone you know has a pair to look through.

Post by: Hunt Blacktail on February 06, 2010, 04:28:58 PM: I was sceptical at first about Zen-Ray optics but, no more I'm very impressed I have the 7x36 ED 2's and they are fine glass! I have compared to much more expensive glass that I have a they perform admirably to say the least! So well in fact I'm adding another to my arsenal! Image quality is top notch! And customer service is second to none!!!
