Title: Son's first deer
Post by: Yardmaster on January 27, 2010, 11:43:58 PM
My boy missed 4 does the 1st weekend of the 08 season. Then connected on this doe on the last hunt, about a 100yd shot with his 270.

That is cool- I took my daughter out this year but she got bored quick and since she is so young I didn't want to push her. We made it out twice and didn't get close enough for a shot.

Good deal, sounds like he is hooked. Congrats!  My oldest daughter got her first doe at 10, was an awesome time. She is now 14 and has changed priorities a bit. The middle daughter wants to go this year, she will be 10 this year.

I like to see the young kids out having a good time. My oldest daughter goes hunting with me ( she has not got one yet ) I just enjoy spending the time with her out there. Tell your son good job and want to see more pics this hunting season. :hunter:

That is great. My 10 year old son has been out with me a few times and seems to enjoy it. We need to work on him being quiet though. I have had him at the range with his 30-30 and he really needs some work. Any ideas on how I can coach him? I have told him breathing and trigger control but to no avail. I need to get him better shot groups before I want him taking a shot at a deer.

My Daughter was having a problem with grouping I did the same thing breathing trigger control for a long time kept saying just need more practice. My daughter hunts with a win 243 that has a Leopold scope found out that she was shooting half the time with one eye open then was shooting with both eyes open told her to pick one way and stick with that she did ( both eyes open) she then lined up the next three shots 1/4 high above the bull at 100 yds. Might want to ask if he is doing the same :twocents:

By far the best posts on this site are from when kids get their first animal or fish!  Congrats to your little feller.

About the child that was not grouping.  Make sure he does not need glasses.  The first year my daughter hunted she could not see a deer through the scope, said it was blurry.  We had her eyes checked and she needed glasses.  She is near sighted in one eye and far in the other.  Most of the time she does not wear them but when she shots she has to have them.  She is the only one that can sight in her rifle too.  She sees through the scope different than we do.  This might not be your problem but it is another option.  Good luck!

my middle son was jerking the trigger. He couldn't grasp what was wrong until I failed to put a live round into the chamber(on purpose of course).  When he jerked the trigger he knew right away what I was talking about.
