In the last two days I have bumped into seven herds of elk and only one branched bull, and four spikes. they should be getin close to droping some bone. What do you think next mounth? Sure got fired up hearing the cows and calfs sliping through the rain forest mewing. The smell almost made me forget that I was actually swinging the spey rod on a pristine Olympic Peninsula stream in search of the mighty winter run native steelhead. In addition to the elk I saw two racoons a family of river otter one cotton tail rabbit and one ruffled grouse. Several Bald Eagle and hawk, water ozzle and king fisher. The fishing could have been better, only one steelhead hooked up. What an awsome outing.

Sounds like a great couple days despite the fishing. I'd wait another month or so before wondering why the bulls haven't dropped yet.

Sounds like a great day ! I took a drive up to green water yesterday and all I saw was the elk trails pawing there way up the muddy shoulder. Didn't even see an animal & got pumped over elk. Went to check on the snow conditions for riding and almost was able to drive my truck to Gov meadows cabin in 2wd. Glad you had fun, hope for more hookups next trip. Mike

About mid March most of them should start dropping, but honestly, with this screwey warm weather, who knows :dunno: The muleys here are behind schedule... Went shed hunting on Thursday and the only antlers I saw were still attached.

Great time of the year to be out and about. This weather makes it nice. I hit the river last week and the grouse were drumming like crazy.

Hiked up in the Dayton Unit for a couple of hours yesterday. Didn't find anything but a little spike whitetail skull...
