No go on station 13 for that one my friend.

Lakers are deep deep and then deeper.

ive caught them off the shore. i dont know exactly what camp we were at but it was on the westside of the lake about half way up the lake. i was casting buzzbombs from the dock and did quite well. this was in june. also caught a few nice land locked kings?  :dunno: at least that is what they looked like to me...

Im sure you can.  We have caught them in 30ft of water less than 50 yards from the shore.  Your best bet is a boat though.

What I'm thinking you ran into was an abundance of bait fish in shallower water that drew the lakers in.  Basically, in the right place at the right time.  I've had that happen there where in a 15 minute span we had 5 in the boat in 12' of water.  There were baitfish everywhere.  Even caught a king (8lber) in there last year in 8' of water that was so actively chasing baitfish, that he would have bit anything you threw at him.  It was one of the recent plants that are a sterile fish meant for harvest.  As for fishing for them off shore, it would be a waste of time in my opinion.

 :yeah:

I've had the same thing happen with Laker or Mack's as we called them back home on Flathead and Whitefish lakes.  Once in a blue moon you fish for rainbow trout or Pike from shore and you end up nailing the Macks because the baitfish are in the shallows.  But in general the only way to regularly catch Lakers or Macks without deep water trolling is through the ice, and then your fishing in deep water anyway.
