A few months back I got a couple of my bear skulls back from Michelle and have been meaning to post some pics for a while now.
These were from the 2008 season and then turned out great.

Thanks BTKR for posting pictures. I figured those skulls were still packed in boxes.
As for the "right way", "best way", "perfect skull" comments I have been seeing lately it's getting old. If you feel the need to make me look uppity and a snob than you have nothing better to do with your time. I have never said any of those things about my method using Maceration. I said only that using beetles and my method are far better than boiling. That is not an uppity statement. That is a true statement.
Maceration is not rocket science. Anyone can do it. Not like my method has been kept secret. I have NEVER turned anyone away that has posted a question on this board, PM'ed, or called me on the phone asking me questions on what to do next. So it's not like I keep my o so far superior method a secret.
I do not appreciate people making comments repeatedly that make me look like a snob. When anyone who knows me knows I am far from it.

:yeah:
Not that I've been doing my euros the right way or anything. I promised Mich I would try to do one right next year... Those look great BTW!
-
Mich , quit being a snob....geez :chuckle:
Cant even have fun on here anymore without people reading into things and making big deals about nothing :'(
ANyway, the skulls look great, all degreased properly, all the nasal bones are intact. Looks like they are done the" right way" to me whether it is boiled, beetled , or rotted in water . I figured this was a trick post by BTKR and they were actually boiled :yike: ..... :chuckle:
-
I didn't see Michelle's comment until after I posted. Hope I didn't add fuel to the fire. I was referring to a visit to her shop, where I saw the maceration process and decided to give it a try next year. I have, up until now, boiled and picked, and I have always rooted out the nasal bones. After seeing macerated skulls, I am going to try it so I can keep the nose bones intact.
Hope my comment wasn't misconstrued.

I don't know......I think the maceration thing is a bit snobby....and stinky! lol
The skulls look better then bugs and a ton better then boiling. I am not sure about "right" or "wrong" but if I had to classify them I would say that maceration would have to be "best", bugs would be "good" and boiling would be "ok".
-
How many skulls in your collection? I'll never catch up :-) Michelle's got one of mine that's nearly ready. "Boss Hog" LOL.

That is a good name for your Bear Skull Ray. Older Bear with a really wide head. Thing looks cool as all get out.
-
Crap...what kind of name did mine earn....last years was Boo Boo Bear so that is taken... :dunno:
-
Oooooo does that mean I get to name it this year? :)

Here is a pic of some of my bear skulls. I think there are ten there. (We should have 20) I have a couple more that are reall dirty, at least one in the freezer and have lost or left a few in the woods.

Which big one? I see many...

I assume it is the brownish one he is talking about. Where is your 20" skull?

The brownish one is not the 20" skull. I believe that is the first bear he ever killed. The really really old one.
His 20" is one of the skulls sitting to either side of the brownish one.

It must be an illusion.
The "brownish" one is between 18 & 19 inches but it came from a 23 year old boar.
The ones on both sides are bigger. To the left is 19 something and the one on the right is 20 inches.
-
You need to build a shelf in your man cave to display all of those.
-
Nice! They look good
