Title: Portland Zoo elk sheds.
Post by: hunterofelk on March 07, 2010, 11:33:37 AM
Yeah, I know it is lame shed hunting, but we were in Portland, Ore. for one of the kid's robotic competitions and the wife and I decided to take the train and see the zoo.  Imagine my surprise when I saw a massive set of sheds off the trail!  I am probably one of the few that notices things like these.  They have been collecting and displaying the sheds from this bull for years and the pictures don't do them justice.  Just have to see for yourself someday.  The bulls eleventh year, 2005 if I remember correctly, was his best  and he seems to be regressing. The bull had already shed his antlers this year and it is hard to see him because the fences and the roll of the hill. I asked several workers there if this year's sheds were somewhere the public could see them, but nobody knew.  My wife thought I was probably the only person to ever ask.
The other animals were cool, too.  Nice zoo.

The middle set is his biggest and widest.  I wish I had added something to compare or demonstrate the size.

Ya, that is a gorgeous bull, defiantly regressing though, he is old.
