I'll give you all the nutshell version. Dad and I made rough plans the night before, and I thought we were just going for a drive in the mountains, but when we arrived at our spot, he starts pulling gear from the back of the truck, and he looked at me and asked where all my stuff was. "Sorry Dad, I thought we just going for a drive." So I was in blue jeans, gray T-shirt, camo jacket and a white baseball cap. Not exactly your best predator calling attire.
So on our second set, we had just got settled, and I had my white cap off with the camo jacket hood over my head, and we weren't there for two minutes and I looked to my left, and sure as hell there was a coyote not ten feet from us! She started to get skittish when she saw my movement, and jumped behind a bush of vine maple. She leered around the backside of it trying to figure out what was going on, but that was a big mistake. Boom! Shot her at about fifteen yards.
Dad sure was surprised when the shot when off. He had been set up to look the othe way and definitely wasn't expecting the gun to go off just after arriving! The thing smelled like a skunk terribly. It either ate one or tangled with one. Too bad. It had a nice pelt that we wouldn't have minded taking.

Should have kept the pelt if you wanted it. I could have gotten the smell out. Skunk don't bother me. ;)
