Just finished replacing all drags with new carbon type washers in my Abu Garcia's reels. Wow- amazing what new drags washers can do for a previously smoked reel... Now, I am finally ready for springers, let the fun begin... Except for the next two weekends (kids hockey and Sturgeon trips for some employees).. Anybody else getting their gear tuned up and ready?? Tieing up leaders this week, replacing hooks and washing the lures, I think it's going to be good....

I can't wait! Hopefully Drano produces a few this year! :chuckle: I am definitely making time for springer fishing this year. This is the first year in about ten that I didn't make it up to the Peninsula for steely's :bash:

Muley,
Let me know when you head this way. I live across from The Dalles. Drano is my favorite Springer hole. Would love to meet ya.

Yeah, that hole is about the best example for combat fishing :chuckle:

yea, ya better reel the salmon in quick... or someone may steal it with 80 lb. braid on their reel, lmao

Drano starts banging mid may usually, so mark it on your calendar. Line the gunnel's with bumpers and jump in the troll line.

First time to Drano was couple weeks ago- launching to go after Sturgeon... I can't believe the size of that place with the numbers of people that I have been told go there.. Crazy it must be... :yike:

It's cool. :bash: Lines of cars both sides of the road. It looks like a carousel of boats until one catch a fish and messes up the train. It a fun drive though especially when your amped and think your going to catch a fish until you pass Bonneville and see a solid wave of nets expanding from the shoreline your entire drive past the Wind River then to Drano. Then you realize you had to pay another $8.00 to help the endangered salmon. And then your told it's because of the dams. Don't mind them nets as they are for gorge scenery and money makers to help build a casino at Cascade Locks at some point. :bash: Don't head up to Drano on Wednesdays as I believe they close it to allow a net to be stretched under HWY 14. Anyways. Good luck on the fishing.

Never been there on a weekend nor when the nets are in. Typically slay the fish there. Always been good for us in April in the past.

I have been told those are the way to go. I'm needing to replace drags in about 6 of my reels.

That's what I've heard as well. I think I'm going to do all my abus and my two curados here pretty soon.

i've been meaning to order some sets of smoothie washers for a long time but i keep putting it off. a cheaper alternative for ABU reels is getting the stock washers from the newer reels which are a carbon fiber material. they swap right in to the older reels with the "slick" fiber washers(the kind that get jerky really quick). can't remember the part number off the top of my head, but they run around $6 a set.

Yea, I ordered them on line from a place in BC Canada, came in about three weeks.. Had to replace a couple other parts etc... For something like $20 bucks got three reels that were smoked back up and running. And one heck of alot cheaper than sending them in for $17 bucks each to be looked at, plus cost of parts.
