Title: Bird dog training seasons?
Post by: kgarr1986 on March 16, 2010, 01:19:10 PM
I am checking to see if anyone knows what you have to do to make your land huntable out of season for bird dog training if you buy your own pheasants?

It has been a while since I did any training, but the last time I checked was it needed to fall within the time table posted within regs, and the birds need to be tagged. This can be done yourself, or by the seller. And a reciept for the birds.

I believe you can train on YOUR land with YOUR birds anytime. The training season in the regs generally applies to the release sites and other STATE training/hunting grounds. Call you local game dept rep for a certain answer but on YOUR land using purchased banded birds there should be no issue. Dog trainers and trial guys should know more as most all of them train year round ( just earlier in the cool part of the day for the summer). I shoot my birds on my property whenever I get the chance, but I would only use public land during the training season.
