Post by: elkpred8tr on March 17, 2010, 10:38:13 AM
Just moved to the area of Yelm. Can anyone tell me if the fishing is good at Clear Lake?

I did a few houses on that lake and saw some big largemouths close to shore in the summer time.

I used to fish it quite a bit back when the resort was open, really good for 14-18 inch Rainbow Trout (and some bigger ones) and 12-14 Brook Trout, sometimes even 4lb+ Browns back in the day.
It was managed as a trout fishery, then some "Armchair Biologists" introduced other fish,  guys didn't clean their boats/trailers and milfoil got introduced.....
Now it gets full of weeds, Pumkinseed Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Yellow perch etc...
Fishing is still good for Largemouth, but the trout isn't like it used to be.

They stock it with put-and-take trout every spring.  You can find out when by using this link:

http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/plants/weekly/ (http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/plants/weekly/)

By June the weeds are pretty deep and the trout fishing goes to he**....If you have a boat you can do ok.  There is only one public fishing area at the boat launch on the south shore.

Laurence lake is ok too.  It has browns and rainbows.  Public launch on the south shore.  Weeds as in clear Lake.

clear lake used to always get huge crowds on opening weekend.

most of the lowland lake fishing has gone to hell since the state seems to have started only managing for put and take trout fishing.  they look at everything else as trash fish.

I used to spend lots of time fishing the differant lakes in the area (Elbow, Bass, East, Clear lake) up untill they closed acces to them all but Clear. Elbow Lake was always fun to fish for trout and other species. It is even a state park but is in accessable except to foot traffic. It is one hell of a hike to the lake and you always wondered if you vehicle was going to be there when you returned  :bash:

I lived in Clearwood for seven years, i fished it for the first couple of years and mainly caught small trout up to eight inches. they do stock it with some brooders every year. as some of the guys have said good bass fishing when they are on their spawning beds. But you cant beat the view on a nice clear day looking at the Bald Hills.
